An 'insider' close to Leonardo DiCaprio has revealed why the Hollywood star only ever dates women under the age of 25.

This comes after the Titanic actor, 47, broke up with his girlfriend of almost five years, Camila Morrone, just months after she turned 25.

The insider told the New York Post: "By the time girls reach 25, they're looking for more - they're looking to get married and settle down.

"That is not what Leo wants. He does not want a family and does not want to be around women who may press him for that.

"The minute a girl meets him, the clock is ticking. If she gets too old, in a couple of years, she is gone. If she gets too close, in a couple of years, she is gone.

"He's gotten older but his taste has not gotten any older."

DiCaprio's love of younger women has become a running joke in Hollywood, with Ricky Gervais even poking fun at the actor for his taste at the 2020 Oscars.

He referenced the length of Quentin Tarantino's film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and said: "[It's] almost three hours long - it's an epic.

"Leonardo DiCaprio attended the premiere and by the end, his date was too old for him."

The actor saw the funny side to the joke, too, and was seen laughing in the audience.

A source told The Sun of DiCaprio's breakup with Morrone: "Leo and Camila ended their relationship over the summer.

"There are no bad feelings between them. It just came to a natural conclusion."

Morrone turned 25 in June, and at the time, social media commentators suspected that her days as DiCaprio's girlfriend were numbered.

One viral post that featured a montage of the pair was captioned: "It's the final countdown."

“Happy Birthday sweetie!!! It's time for us to break up [sic]," joked another while a third remarked: "If they make it one more year it will be both his longest relationship, and she will be the first 26-year-old he has dated."

When news of the breakup was announced, one social media user shared a graph that documented Leo's increasing age, but the absolute consistency of his girlfriend's.

They wrote: "This Leonardo DiCaprio graph where he continues to get older and his girlfriends never age above 25 lives rent-free in my head."

To put the predictability of the actor's behaviour into context, Morrone is now the fourth woman he has broken up with at the age of 25.
