Kim Kardashian was 'blindsided' by backlash to controversial 'get up and work' comments

Kim Kardashian was 'blindsided' by backlash to controversial 'get up and work' comments

Kim shared her thoughts about the ordeal with her sisters Kendall and Khloé in the new episode of The Kardashians

Kim Kardashian said she felt ‘blindsided’ by the reaction to her comments about women in work earlier this year.

In March, the SKIMS founder took part in a Variety interview with her sisters Khloé and Kourtney and their 'momager' Kris where she told women to ‘get your f**king ass up and work'.

This is before she said: "It seems like nobody wants to work these days."

Responding those who think the Kardashian-Jenners don’t work, Kim said: "We focus on the positive. We work our asses off.

"If that’s what you think, then sorry. We just don’t have the energy for that. We don’t have to sing or dance or act; we get to live our lives — and hey, we made it. I don’t know what to tell you."

It didn't take long for people on social media to lash out at Kim for her words, with some comparing them to statements made by Molly-Mae Hague's controversial interview with Diary Of A CEO host Steven Bartlett.

But in the latest episode of The Kardashians, Kim sat down for dinner with Khloé, 38, and Kendall, 26, where she spoke about the social media reactions to the interview.

"There's just been so much going on because of that Variety interview,” Kim revealed to her sisters.

"I said what I said about people working. Do I believe in that? Yes, I believe that you have to work hard in order to do that. But I was just so blindsided by how angry people got.

“Enough people were triggered, so I want to be responsible and understanding [of] why people feel the way they do, and I do understand that a lot of people weren't given the same opportunities as us."

Khloé agreed with Kim and said she found the ordeal ‘frustrating’ however she believes people would ‘crucify’ Kim regardless of what she said about the topic.

Khloé said: “They're always gonna say, 'Well, what do you know? You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth'.

"But it's frustrating when the world doesn't want to see you for who you are, and they want to always make whatever you say a personal attack.”

Kim's comments sparked outrage on social media.

The mum-of-four also put to bed the idea she gets everything handed to her and said things like her sex tape would typically close doors rather than open them.

“I think people would assume that I got everything handed to me, being on a TV show. But being on a reality show, let alone a reality-show girl with a sex tape, does not open door,” she said.

“I always felt like I had to work extra hard and harder to be taken seriously and for people to forget about my past," she added,” she added.

Kim said she learned her work ethic from her own mum Kris, 66.

“Growing up and seeing her hustle and seeing her get up every day with all these kids that she had to take care of, I saw her work her ass off and figure it out... and that really inspired me to work,” Kim gushed.

Later in the episode, Kris shared the heart-breaking news that she needs to undergo a hip replacement.
