Dax Shepard says he and Kristen Bell '1000%' didn't want a second child

Dax Shepard says he and Kristen Bell '1000%' didn't want a second child

There were two main reasons they decided to go against having just the one

Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell are both known for keeping it real, so it's no surprise that the 47-year-old dad-of-two gave a truly honest reason for why the couple didn't want a second child.

Obviously the acting duo are truly happy with their family now, which includes their daughters, nine-year-old Lincoln and seven-year-old Delta.

But initially they only wanted to have one, something Shepard opened up about on a recent episode of The Endless Honeymoon podcast.

While speaking with a caller who was undecided on whether to have a second kid, the Hit and Run actor said: "We did not want a second child."

He added that one is 'so much easier' and initially they were '1000%' sure of their decision.

He said there were two reasons why they decided against having an only child, stating: "One is, we travel a lot. It's not fair to bring this little human everywhere we go and deal with only adults.

"We owe it to her to give her a playmate that travels. We love her enough to do something we don't really want to do, which is have a second, because we were so absolutely happy with just the one."

The second reason is that he didn't want Delta to grow up to be a 'spoiled b***h' and they thought that bringing another tiny human into the mix would help to offset some of the privilege they'd both be growing up with.

"I needed a force of compromise and sharing and discomfort because I wasn't going to give it to her in the other ways," he said.

"We just thought it would be really helpful to make her a better person to have to deal with someone else."

Well, you can't argue with that.

Bell, who many know as the leading star of The Good Place, previously made the revelation that their youngest daughter was still wearing nappies at the age of five.

Speaking on the Momsplaining with Kristen Bell podcast, the 42-year-old mum revealed that Lincoln got the hang of using the toilet before she was even two years old, adding that 'every kid is so different'.

"My oldest daughter at 21 months, we merely suggested that she use the toilet in the other room and [she] never wore another diaper beyond that," she said.

"We were lying in bed giggling about this, my husband and I, like, 'Why does everyone make a big deal out of this potty training? It's so easy. Just tell the kid to use the toilet'.

“Currently, my youngest is five and half — still in diapers.”
