Those who have been tuned in to new Channel 5 drama The Teacher are convinced they've already figured out the show's plot twist.

Episode one of the four-part thriller premiered on Monday evening, and viewers watched as teacher Jenna (Sheridan Smith) got way too close to her 15-year-old student during a night out at a club.

Watch a trailer for the series here:

Jenna finds herself in all sorts of trouble when she is accused of sleeping with her student Kyle (Samuel Bottomley), but with little to no recollection of the night in question, Jenna isn't so sure that she did get into bed with Kyle.

As both Jenna and the police work to get to the bottom of what happened that night, people are also wondering who made the initial report about her inappropriate behaviour with Kyle.

After the show's debut, some fans are already convinced that they know the answer to the latter.

Taking to Twitter after the episode aired, fans shared their theories on who was behind the report.

"I reckon Nina is behind the emails/texts… calling it now #TheTeacher", tweeted one fan.

"I think that Nina is the one who’s doing the malicious Emails #TheTeacher", wrote another.

A third added: "Defo a set up this.. Nina I reckon! #TheTeacher."

One viewer asked: "Why do I feel like Nina is the one whose going to be the one spreading the accusation of Jenna sleeping with her student..."

Nina was introduced to viewers as another English teacher in Jenna's school - though she's certainly a lot more by-the-book and proper.

Played by Sharon Rooney, Nina was Sharon's main rival for the position as the Head of the English department.

While she wasn't at the club on the night that Jenna allegedly slept with a student, Nina is openly disapproving of Jenna's teaching methods and behaviours.

Could Nina be behind the accusations? Did Jenna really sleep with a minor? Even if she didn't, should she really be working as a teacher?

So many questions remain unanswered...

The Teacher airs nightly on Channel 5 at 9pm from Monday 31st January to Thursday 3rd February.
