Netflix has released the first trailer for the hotly anticipated documentary featuring Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Watch below:

Described as a 'Netflix global event' per the official description, the documentary will include interviews with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex plus intimate home videos of their new life in the US.

The trailer is mostly in black and white and features pictures of the couple carrying out royal duties as well as selfies and polaroids.

Prince Harry, 38, is asked by an interviewer why he decided to make the documentary. "Nobody sees what happens behind closed doors," he replies.

"I had to do everything I could to protect my family."

Viewers will get to see the couple like never before.

Towards the end of the clip, Meghan, 41, says: "When the stakes are this high does it make more sense to hear our story from us?"

A Netflix documentary from the Sussexes has long been rumoured after they signed a deal to produce content for the streaming giant through their Archewell company.

Today, Harry & Meghan has been officially announced alongside its minute-long trailer and the reveal of the official artwork.

Harry & Meghan will have to six parts and is produced by Story Syndicate Production in association with Archewell Productions and Diamond Docs, Deadline reports.

The couple will share details of 'their high profile love story,' and the official description reads: "Across six episodes, the series explores the clandestine days of their early courtship and the challenges that led to them feeling forced to step back from their full-time roles in the institution."

The documentary series is expected to launch next year.

Prince Harry is also set to open up on his life inside and outside the royal family in an emotional memoir called Spare.

The news was confirmed by Penguin Random House, who announced that the book will be released on 10 January 2023.

A spokesperson for the publishing house wrote: "SPARE takes readers immediately back to one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror.

"As Diana, Princess of Wales, was laid to rest, billions wondered what the princes must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

"For Harry, this is his story at last.

"With its raw, unflinching honesty, SPARE is a landmark publication full of insight, revelation, self- examination, and hard-won wisdom about the eternal power of love over grief."

A premiere date for Harry & Meghan will be confirmed in the near future.
