When the guest host was sat behind his desk, viewers were completely unaware of the party happening below. On the show Richard and co-host Kate Garraway, 54, promoted the 1 million minutes loneliness campaign, which aims to tackle loneliness and isolation across the country.

It was only when Richard stood up to scan a QR code for the viewers realised Richard was technically only half dressed.

And Richard was definitely feeling extra festive with his shorts and comfy slippers and even his co-host Kate jokingly apologised to viewers for his outfit choice.

Kate quipped: “You've been a little exposed as being unwrapped yourself, haven't you?

"I mean, I can't apologise enough."

Viewers at home took to Twitter after spotting Richard's bare legs on their television screens.

One person tweeted: "Is @richardpbacon only half dressed?"

While another funny and concerned tweet said: "Dear Richard loving the show but where are your trousers, hun have they done a runner ? tee, hee.”

A third person wrote: "Hang on why is Richard wearing the slippers too… FairPlay#GMB”".

Similarly, someone else tweeted: "What? is this man wearing slippers."

Others were loving his smart-casual look, one person wrote: "Lmao....Love the fact @richardpbacon is only properly dressed from the waste up in his little slippers ".

And while there were lots of concerned tweets, some Good Morning Britain viewers had fare more frivolous reactions.

One viewer named Miranda posted a tweet which was read aloud by Richard live in the studio after the show returned from an advert following the grand debut of his shorts.

She said: "So enjoyed seeing Richard Bacon, but a treat this morning, those legs xx Merry Christmas".

She followed-up her first tweet, writing: "Can we have one more replay of Richard’s legs.”

Another pleased viewer called his outfit an "eye-opener."

While someone else responded: “Brilliant to see what you were wearing when you stepped out from behind the desk."

And another person chipped in, tweeting: “Love Richard in his shirt tie jacket / shorts and slippers lol excellent move”.

It must have been casual Friday for Richard and Richard only on the Good Morning Britain set today!
