"We are delighted to announce our ninth series of Escape to the Chateau will be starting soon in the UK.

“As soon as we have a date, you will be the first to know!”

Channel 4's senior commissioning editor Clemency Green later confirmed the sad news to The Sun, explaining: "Across nine series we have seen the chateau rise from its ruins into the beautiful home and venue it is today.

"We look forward to working with Two Rivers and Chateau TV to follow Dick and Angel as they turn their attentions to new projects and new adventures."

The couple will be returning at some point soon with a new series around France - Escape to the Chateau: Secret France - set to air in 2023.

Viewers have loved watching the family transform the 45-room chateau over the years.

Despite the prospect of a new show, fans are gutted that Escape to the Chateau has come to an end.

One fan wrote: "It's great news for the next series of Escape to the Chateau, but very sad it’s the final one. Both my me and my mum have loved watching the evolution of the chateau and your family grow. Perhaps you can buy another chateau to continue with more series. Lol."

While another added: "The 9th and last series. Mixed emotions, great that you're back on but sad it’s the last. Thank you for sharing your wonderful journey."

The show first started in 2016.

The series first began in 2016, following Angel and Dick as they renovated their French chateau - Château de la Motte-Husson in Pays de la Loire, France.

Viewers have loved watching the family transform the 45-room chateau over the years, and will be gutted to see it end.

"Escape to the Chateau has been our family journey; our decision to buy a chateau with no water, electricity, heating or sewage has taken us on the adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold," the couple said.

"The good, the bad and the ugly…we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they're older.

"We're so grateful to everyone who continues to support us and we're looking forward to what the future holds. As one Chateau chapter ends, so another Chateau story begins."

The end of an era. But we can't wait to see what's next for the family.
