Cameron Diaz is one of Hollywood’s best-known leading ladies, but back in 2018, she announced her retirement from acting.

Now, the actress, 49, has just announced that she will be coming out of retirement for a new role. Watch below:

The new film which coaxed her out of retirement is the upcoming Netflix comedy Back in Action.

She will be starring in the film with Jamie Foxx, who teased her return on social media with the clip above.

“Cameron I hope you aren't mad I recorded this, but no turning back now,” he declared.

In the call, the actress explained that she was ‘so anxious’ but ‘excited’ to return to the career that made her a household name.

The BBC reports that filming will begin on Back in Action later this year, however, the storyline is currently ‘being kept under wraps.’

Foxx and Diaz first joined forces for the 1999 film Any Given Sunday, but they also worked together on Diaz’ last film, Annie, in 2014.

Diaz didn’t officially announce that she was retired until four years later.

She previously said that she found the pressures of her 20-year acting career ‘overwhelming’ and that’s why she chose to step away from the spotlight.

Speaking to Kevin Hart on his talk show in 2020, she explained she had no regrets about the decision as her retirement gave her ‘a peace in my soul because I was finally taking care of myself.’

She said: “It’s a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won’t understand it, I know you understand it, but it’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there.

“There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there.”

The Holiday actress officially described herself as retired to her Sweetest Thing co-stars, Selma Blair and Christina Applegate, in 2018.

“Cameron’s retired from acting,” Blair relayed. “She’s like ‘I’m done'.”

Diaz explained that the past eight years have given her a chance to do the things she's always wanted to do with her life outside acting, and she became a parent in 2019.

The actress also got married in 2015 to Good Charlotte guitarist Benji Madden, with whom she shares her daughter.

During an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Diaz said that being a parent is hard work but it’s still the best thing she’s done in her life.
