Rules Of The Game: New BBC Drama Inspired By The Harvey Weinstein Case Is Coming Soon

The drama will drop on BBC this year.

BBC is set to release a brand new drama inspired by the Harvey Weinstein case.

Rules Of The Game is a four part thriller about 'sexual politics within the modern workplace' and stars Maxine Peake as Sam Thompson, a manager at a family-run business in the north of England.

You can watch the trailer below:

The drama follows Sam as she arrives at work one morning and finds a dead body in the office reception. BBC explain how Sam is "forced to reckon with not only murky behaviour in the present, but murderous secrets from the past as well."

The BBC said: "Sam is ruthless, abrasive, and her willingness to play along with the boys means she’s climbed to the top of the ladder at sportswear company Fly. As COO, it’s a view she’s comfortable with. Maya, the newly hired HR Director, has a very different perspective.

"She and Sam clash from their very first meeting, and when Maya begins to unpick the toxic culture of the workplace, dark secrets begin to emerge. Soon both she and Sam are asking questions about a young female employee, Amy, who died in mysterious circumstances after a company party some years ago."

Alongside Maxine Peake, Rakhee Thakrar plays Maya - a new HR Director who begins investigating historic cases of misconduct within the company, in a bid to 'shake up the old-fashioned lad culture'.

Meanwhile Alison Steadman plays member of the board Anita, and Susan Wokoma appears as DI Eve Preston, who is investigating a case centred around the company.

Further cast includes Kieran Bew, Ben Batt, Callie Cooke, Katherine Pearce, and Zoë Tapper.

Speaking about the upcoming drama, Maxine said: “What a glorious cast. Working alongside my fellow sisters each day, with their commitment and understanding towards Ruth Fowler’s script about sexual politics in the workplace, with Jennifer Sheridan directing, has reminded me once again why we need to keep fighting for more women to have a voice in the filmmaking process.”

Meanwhile Rakhee Thakrar added: “It's been pure joy working with this cast, who all bring such authenticity, heart and humour to any scene. Maxine Peake in particular has been an absolute highlight as our lead.”

Rules Of The Game will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in 2022.
