Season 6 of the American show This Is Us finally hit UK screens on Thursday and the fans who prepared for an emotional rollercoaster, were not left disappointed with the jaw dropping final scene leaving viewers bawling.
Keen-eyed fans spotted Uncle Nicky (Griffin Dunne) wearing a wedding band in Season 5 and have since speculated many theories as to who the character marries, narrowing it down to one of three characters; Sally Brooks (Genevieve Angelson), Cassidy Sharp (Jennifer Morrison), and Rebecca Pearson (Mandy Moore). All was eventually revealed in the final scene of episode two!
Nicky’s future wife was not Cassidy, Rebecca or Sally! It was an entirely new character called Edie (Vanessa Bell Calloway). Nicky meets his future wife on a flight, where Edie is working as an air stewardess.

Fans were extra surprised by this revelation, as Nicky had a severe fear of flying and hadn’t taken a flight since the Vietnam war!.
Edie appears later in the episode, stepping out of a white car, Randall says “look who’s here”. Viewers have seen this scene before in Season 5, but this time we finally get to see her face.
Griffin Dunne told People magazine in an interview about the episode: “I hope the audience will be as surprised as I was when I read the script. I didn’t see that coming at all.”

“I’m sitting there reading the script, not knowing at all where it’s going. Then I think, 'Oh, look, I finally meet Sally' and 'oh no, she’s married. Oh I guess it’s not going to happen.' Then I’m like, 'Wow, all that talk and that’s what happened. Not at all what I pictured.'
"And then it went a step further with what I didn’t picture, that it was Edie and [Nicky] was being a grumpy passenger.
"The moment Nicky saw Edie…I felt like I hadn’t been able to smile much in this [as Nicky]. I, kind of like, get to be playful, where I’m just a giddy teenager. It was really fun, how love can do that. It just lightens your load.”
Fans were equally excited about Nicky’s new found love.
