A skincare expert has revealed the most common mistakes people make ‘all the time’, and shared the only three products you need in your routine.

Many of us have skincare routines packed full of products, and it can easily become deep-rooted into how we wind down for the day.

Some look forward to the ten-step - maybe even more - process, but one dermatologist has warned that we only need to be using three products.

As well as that, Dr. Azadeh Shirazi revealed the top three most common mistakes that people make, and they’re more common than you think.

The expert admitted on TikTok that she finds people committing these skincare crimes regularly, and is here to set the record straight about what we really need to be doing.

Using too many products

If you love nothing more than the skincare cupboard being full to the brim with different lotions and serums, it might be time for a clearout.

Ron Robinson, a cosmetic chemist that spoke to the New York Times, likened our skin to ‘armour’ that breaks down several attackers.

In terms of our skin, these aggressors can be pollutants, allergens and irritants.

According to him, each ingredient we put on our skin threatens that barrier, which can lead to the very things you’re trying to avoid - redness, dryness, breakouts and other woes.

So it turns out that less really is more when it comes to skincare, and Shirazi has recommended the only three products that your face really needs.

These include - cleanser, moisturiser and an SPF to protect against harsh rays.

However, she did advise: “If you have acne or you want to do something for anti-aging, add in a treatment step in between your cleanser and moisturiser.”

Skipping sun protection

The skincare expert insisted that sunscreen use is imperative for delicate skin that is prone to sun damage.

This includes areas such as the eyelids, the lips, the ears, neck and chest, as well as the back of the hands, which she says she often removes skin cancer from.

You heard the lady, get the factor 50 out!

Copying a friend's skincare routine

Recommending the odd product here and there isn’t an issue, but ultimately, Shirazi recommends developing a regimen that’s best for you.

She said: “Make sure that you are using specific products that are good for your skin type and your concern, because everybody’s skin is different.

“You see all these people, all these influencers online that are promoting this product and that product, and people get distracted.

“Their friend is using this miracle gel and so they started, but it’s not the right treatment for them.”

You have been warned!
