There were emotional scenes as Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes discussed Caroline Flack's tragic death by suicide on This Morning today.

As well as inviting psychologist Emma Kenny on the show to talk about the tragic news, the TV presenters addressed the poignant topic during an instalment of This Morning View, where the show typically dissects the biggest headlines.

But when Caroline came up again, it all became a bit much for both presenters and guests Nicola Thorp and Matthew Wright, who were obviously very affected by the tragic story.

With her voice cracking Nicola said: "It is not a choice. Suicide is something that happens when you don't have a choice.

"It's worth knowing that what's going on in someone's head when they suffer mental health issues is that they feel like they're a burden..."

However, it wasn't just her that was crying, as she was also forced to reach a hand out to Ruth, who had also broken down off camera.

While Eamonn spoke directly to viewers at home, revealing they had an anxiety and depression phone in with Emma Kenny for anybody affected by the story, poor Ruth looked visibly upset on the sofa next to him, and could be seen wiping away tears.

The poignant TV segment must have been doubly hard for Ruth, seeing as back in November her sister Julia Johnson was found to have heartbreakingly died from suicide, too.

After battling depression, Julia ended her own life aged 62. Ruth admitted at the time that she was "completely broken" by the loss.

She added today: "That's the sad thing for people left behind. They say so many people loved you. You did have a choice. You could have called me, you could have called mum."

Earlier on the show, Ruth had also spoken about the importance of Caroline's family being given support in the wake of her passing.

Speaking candidly about her own experiences, Ruth said: "This happened in my family. I remember my shock at that. It's the questions it leaves the families."

Reflecting on how she felt at the time, she added: "I should have gone round. I should have phoned. I was going to go round. I was going to phone. Maybe I should have stayed longer.

"You are left with the 'what ifs'. It's her family now that I think will need so much help."
