Baggage handler reveals the worst type of suitcase to own and why

Baggage handler reveals the worst type of suitcase to own and why

He also shared what the best type is to have, as well as how to make sure your suitcase isn't lost or damaged

The summer holidays are soon approaching and I'm sure we're all practically vibrating with excitement to jet off somewhere sunny, soak in the sun and enjoy some much-deserved time off.

But, before all that, you've got to go through the faff of packing your suitcase or even buying a new piece of luggage altogether if you're in need of one.

However, before copping a new suitcase, you should be warned that there's one particular kind which one baggage handler revealed is the absolute 'worst' type to own.

The baggage handler in question, named Adam, took to Reddit to offer out his expertise to the internet.

Taking to the 'I Am A' thread, Adam wrote: "Hello there, fine strangers! I'm Adam, and I've been doing baggage handling at an airport for a while, while also doing some ramp stuff.

"I'm up to answering basically anything other than anything that will tell u guys which airport I'm at, who my employer is, and anything else related to security at my airport."

Fair enough.

Unsurprisingly, a flurry of people rushed in to share their questions with one of the highest-rated ones being all about what his pet peeves were when it came to passengers' suitcases.

One Reddit user asked: "What's the best / worst luggage to buy?"

Coming in clutch, the baggage handler revealed that 'some of the worst bags to buy' are the ones which have no wheels.

"In my airline," Adam continued, "none of our holds are bin loaded, so we have to manually stack the bags inside each hold, and they can get fairly long."

He explained that if your bag has at least two high-quality wheels, then it allows baggage handles to roll them down the hold quickly, making it easier for us.

"Otherwise, we have to throw the bags in order to keep to the scheduled times," the Reddit user went on.

Adam finished up: "My absolute least favourite bags are the ones that have four wheels, but one of them is seized up, so we try to roll it down, but it just falls over after moving six inches."

Another curious Reddit user asked: "Any tips for avoiding baggage being lost destroyed? Best/worst types of suitcases/bags?"

"We see a lot of bags that look exactly identical to one another going on the same flight," he replied. "One good way I've seen is to put your own tag on the bag with your name and address, so that you can read this and make sure it's yours."

Adam added: "To stop stuff getting damaged, you want to have a bag that has four good wheels, with soft lining on the inside and a hard outer shell.

"The wheels are important bc we tend to throw those bags less when inside the hold of an aircraft, and the other features help keep your stuff cushioned."

Well, the more you know - eh?
