Travel expert shares one item you shouldn't pack in suitcase as it could get mistaken for explosives

Bad news for those with a raging sweet tooth

Travellers have been issued with an urgent warning by a baggage handler about what not to put in your luggage at any cost as it could lead to you being searched for explosives.

For many of us, our summer holidays are fast approaching and we're already daydreaming about what we're going to pack for our week in the sun.

We've noted all of the staples; suncream, sunglasses, and a pair of brand new sandals that may well give us blisters.

By now, we've also learned that one thing we absolutely need to pack at all costs is our contact information on a scrap of paper.

This pearl of wisdom was shared by an ex-flight attendant on Reddit, who urged: "Put your contact information into every single bag you are checking, in every exterior pocket as well as interior.

"Bags can get torn to bits in the machines that move the bags, the conveyor belts can tip them to the ground, and more. Better they have a way to contact you."

Lately, we also learned that tying ribbons around your suitcases in a bid to identify them more easily is an absolute no-go.

John, a baggage handler at Dublin Airport, shared with RSVP Live: "Ribbons that people tie onto their suitcases to help identify them can cause issues with the bag being scanned in the baggage hall. If the bag can't be scanned automatically, it can end up in manual processing, which could mean your bag doesn't make it to the flight."

John offered even more tips to globetrotters.

He advised travellers to take old stickers off your bags and suitcases, as the conflicting barcodes can cause confusion with the scanning process - and in a worst case scenario, your luggage could end up in the wrong destination.

He also urged us to place our luggage onto the belt wheels-up to prevent any damage.

But his last tip was by far the most surprising - as it turns out those with a sweet tooth may be at risk of sparking a huge security risk.

Under no circumstances should travellers put Marzipan in their luggage.

John explained: "[Marzipan] has the same density as some explosives so your bag will be removed and you’ll be called from the plane for a bag search."

That would be a very embarrassing turn of events spurred on by some sugar and almonds, wouldn't it?

Definitely best to just avoid that one.
