It’s always amazing when you get to travel to new countries, and we can only imagine how fun it must be to do it so often it becomes part of your daily routine.

Well, this is exactly the case for one woman who lives on a cruise ship for free.

We all love freebies, whether that’s a discount at your favourite restaurant or a high street sale, Christine Kesteloo sails the seas for a good portion of the year without having to pay.

She documents her incredible travels and awe-worthy experiences on TikTok, and in a recent post, she chatted about living on the ship as well as an ongoing trip to Alaska.

Christine and her husband, Piet, live on a cruise ship for half of the year but when they’re not traveling, they’re based in The Netherlands.

“We never sit still - every single day we are somewhere new and we are travelling all the time. Heck, just within the past month we’ve been in 10 different countries and that was off the ship,” Christine tells her viewers.

In the video, which was shared on 15 July at the beginning of their trip to Alaska, Christine answers questions from her 687,000 followers about what to pack for a visit to the northwestern State.

“No one can give you advice on how to dress for Alaska,” she declares. “You just need to dress like an onion - in layers. Cause in the morning it can be super hot and at night super cold or vice versa then you gotta add in Alaska sunshine which is rain.”

The whole cruise to Alaska lasts for 77 days, which lead some viewers to wonder how Christine managed to get onboard for free.

While Christine is a former cruise director who now works as a full-time content creator, her husband Piet is staff chief engineer and works for the cruise line.

“That’s just part of the perk of being married to a seafarer!” she says.

Christine’s videos have received a lot of attention this summer as we all desperately look for more getaway ideas.

Living as a guest - ‘but also as crew’ - she gets a lot of perks, being able to do pretty much everything both the crew and guests can – with just a few exceptions.

She documents a lot of her life onboard a cruise ship on TikTok, outlining some of the things she cannot do in her videos.

There are actually a lot of rules she follows as the wife of the staff chief engineer, some which many people wouldn’t expect.

Christine explained in a previous post that she can’t gamble on the ship, so she’s not allowed to spend free time sitting at a slot machine to ‘play my heart out until I win’.

She explains: “Because it would look a little weird if I, as the wife of the staff chief engineer, won a big jackpot.”

A pretty strict rule she must follow, which is typically the same for regular guests too, Christine is ‘not allowed to be late to the cruise ship’.

“No, they will not wait for us,” she says. And the same goes for her husband too, because if they ‘miss ship, someone else will take over the role’.
