Special meaning behind Meghan Markle’s dress for the Queen’s funeral

The Duchess of Sussex wore not one but two tributes to Her Majesty The Queen at her funeral.

Meghan Markle paid tribute to Her Majesty in not one, but two different ways, through the outfit she wore to the monarch’s funeral.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, attended the Queen’s funeral with her husband Prince Harry on Monday, 19 September.

The mother-of-two arrived at the service, which took place at Westminster Abbey, wearing a pair of pearl and diamond earrings which had been gifted to her by the Queen during their first solo engagement to Cheshire in 2018.

The Duchess had also worn the earrings as the Queen's coffin was led by procession to Westminster Hall on 14 September.

She also wore a black Stella McCartney dress, which some royal fans might recognise as the former actress had wore a navy blue version of the same dress to a concert celebrating the Queen’s 92nd birthday.

The event had took place at the Royal Albert Hall in April 2018 and starred a range of music legends including Kylie Minogue, Tom Jones, and Sting, among others.

To complete her outfit for the service, Meghan paired the Stella McCartney dress with black heels, black gloves, and Cartier's LOVE bracelet in yellow gold. She also wore a black wide-brimmed hat.

Meghan’s wonderful gesture did not go unnoticed by social media users, who praised her tributes to the 96-year-old late monarch.

One royal fan shared: "It's cool how she and Kate both paid tributes in their own way. Kate [with] her jewellery and Meghan [with]her outfit."

A second twitter user said: "Meghan paid tribute to the Queen by re-wearing a pair of diamond and pearl earrings that were gifted to her by the late monarch."

A third wrote: "It was a tribute to the Queen. Meghan Markle wore a black version of the cape dress she wore to the Queen’s birthday, a black version of the hat she wore to The Queen's Jubilee, and the Pearl and Diamond studs was a gift from the Queen . Her whole look was about the Queen today.

The Sussexes paid tribute to the late monarch in a lengthy statement, in which Harry reflected his most precious moments with his 'Granny'.

He wrote: "Granny, while this final parting brings us great sadness, I am forever grateful for all of our first meetings – from my earliest childhood memories with you, to meeting you for the first time as my Commander-in-Chief to the first moment you met my darling wife and hugged your beloved great-grandchildren.

“I cherish these times shared with you, and the many other special moments in between.

“You are already sorely missed, not just by us, but by the world over. And as it comes to first meetings, we now honour my father in his new role as King Charles III.”
