Police have allegedly told BBC News that the teenage boy at the centre of the Scott Mills sexual offences investigation was under 16.
The news broke yesterday (30 March) that the Radio 2 DJ, 53, was sacked by the broadcaster following allegations about his 'personal conduct'.
And now, it has resurfaced that Mills was reportedly questioned in 2018 over historical allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy under 16.
However, the investigation, which began in 2016, was dropped in 2019 due to a lack of evidence, as the CPS deemed there was insufficient evidence to bring charges.

The BBC reports that the Metropolitan Police said a man, who was in his 40s at the time of the interview, was investigated over allegations which were reported to have happened between 1997 and 2000.

It's important to note that the BBC has not issued any further details over the allegations and whether the police investigation played any role in his sacking.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said in a statement: "In December 2016, the Met began an investigation following a referral from another police force. The investigation related to allegations of serious sexual offences against a teenage boy. These were reported to have taken place between 1997 and 2000.
"As part of these enquiries, a man who was in his 40s at the time of the interview, was questioned by police under caution in July 2018.
"A full file of evidence was submitted to the Crown Prosecution Service, who determined the evidential threshold had not been met to bring charges. Following this advice, the investigation was closed in May 2019."
The BBC has reported that the director general of the corporation at the time, Tony Hall, did not know about the resurfaced allegations.

Yesterday, the BBC said in a statement that 'while we do not comment on matters relating to individuals, we can confirm Scott Mills is no longer contracted and has left the BBC'.
Mills, who hails from Southampton, has worked in radio and TV for more than 25 years and is most famous for taking over the BBC breakfast show from Zoe Ball in January 2025.
Before this, he was part of Radio 2's weekday schedule in 2022 when he replaced Steve Wright as the host of the afternoon slot, after previously working on Radio 1 and hosting a weekend show on BBC Radio 5 Live.

Lorna Clarke, Director of Music, said in a statement to staff: "I wanted to personally let you know that Scott Mills has left the Breakfast show, and the BBC. I know that this news will be sudden and unexpected, and therefore must come as a shock.
"Not least as so many of us have worked with Scott over a great many years, across a broad range of our programmes on R1, 5Live, R2 and TV. I felt it was important to share this news with you at the earliest opportunity."
As reported by Sky News, the radio presenter was taken off air on his Radio 2 show last Tuesday (24 March), while the BBC assessed the claims.
He signed off his last show by saying, "Back tomorrow."
Tyla has contacted Mills' representative for comment.
