The Queen’s final words from her last ever diary entry have been revealed to the public

The Queen’s final words from her last ever diary entry have been revealed to the public

The Queen wrote in her diary up until two days before her death

Like many of us, the late Queen Elizabeth kept a diary of all the most important things that had happened in her life - although I have a feeling hers detailed very different things to the average person.

While some would say a diary is a personal thing that should never be read, the late Queen Elizabeth's diary was discovered by royal biographer Robert Hardman, as part of research.

And she wasn't the only member of the royal family to have written daily entries while on the throne - it is, in fact, a royal family tradition.

After all, they have some pretty unique life experiences to document.

While Queen Victoria's diary is arguably the most famous, it varies quite differently to the one of Queen Elizabeth.

According to Hardman, Queen Victoria wrote elaborate entries with excessive detail, but Queen Elizabeth kept her entries very short and sweet.

She continued writing up until two days before her passing, and while some would imagine that the Queen wrote of being very ill, it seemed as though she spent her final days like any of her others.

She wrote the final entry just after meeting and swearing in the new prime minister Liz Truss.

Hardman wrote: "It transpires that she was still writing it at Balmoral two days before her death.

"Her last entry was as factual and practical as ever."

He added: "It could have been describing another normal working day starting in the usual way - ‘Edward came to see me’ - as she noted the arrangements which her private secretary, Sir Edward Young, had made for the swearing-in of the new ministers of the Truss administration."

It seems as though right up until those final moments, it was business as usual for our longest-reigning monarch.

Queen Elizabeth once spoke of Queen Victoria's diary, emphasising that hers was not similar.

Speaking to diarist Kenneth Rose, she said: "I keep a diary, but not like Queen Victoria’s. It’s quite small.

"I have no time to record conversations, only events."

Her son, King Charles, is said to be keeping the family tradition, jotting down 'his recollections and reflection' during his time on the throne.
