Royal fans have shared their theory as to why Queen Camilla was spotted wearing gloves during a recent public appearance.

On Monday (26 May), Camilla and King Charles III landed in Canada amidst the tensions between the nation - of which Charles is the head of state - and the United States.

Donald Trump has launched a trade war against his country's neighbour and made threats to annex Canada as America’s 51st state.

Now, the two royal family members were greeted by governor general Mary Simon, Prime Minister Mark Carney and his wife, Diana Fox Carney, when they arrived at Ottawa's Macdonald-Cartier International Airport.

People were quick, however, to notice one particular accessory Camilla donned for the occasion - namely, a pair of quite thick-looking gloves.

Rushing to social media to share their thoughts on the outfit detail, one royal fan wondered: "What’s with the gloves?"

"Why is Camila wearing gloves?" echoed a second, while a third theorised: "Probably doesn’t want to get any germs from the common folks."

And another guessed: "Compression gloves, she removes them later."

Compression gloves, which are often called arthritis gloves, can be beneficial for those who experience hand pain, stiffness and swelling associated with conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Now, neither two speculations have been substantiated, but that's not to say people haven't been coming up with their own theories about the royal's attire when it comes to her mitts for years now.

Back in 2020, Camilla could be seen sporting a similar style thick pair of gloves and she reportedly didn't remove them throughout her entire outing.

She also shook hands with the other guests and staff while still wearing her gloves.

There was some speculation at the time that Camilla opted to wear thick gloves as protection against Covid-19, with an onlooker at the event telling New Idea that no one else had gloves on except for her.

"Camilla kept those damned gloves on the whole time. No one else in the whole place had gloves on, let alone ones that thick. It was really incongruous. She was shaking people’s hands with them on," they said, adding that there was allegedly talk that the 77-year-old was scared of getting infected with the virus.

"To be fair, it must be unhygienic to have to shake so many people’s hands, but it just looked downright bizarre," the source noted.

Equally, the reason behind the fashion choice could simply be that Camilla just happens to love the gloved look or finds her fingers get a tad chilly from time to time.
