Queen Elizabeth rejected Princess Beatrice’s original name because she thought it was too ‘yuppie’

The late monarch reportedly vetoed the Duke and Duchess of York's first two baby name choices

For many parents out there, landing on the perfect moniker for your newborn can be quite the trial and error process - and it's clear that the royal family are of no exception.

Now, the late Queen Elizabeth II had eight grandkids (not to mention thirteen great-grandchildren), including the likes of Princess Beatrice, who is the elder daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah née Ferguson.

She was welcomed to the world in August 1988, but the original name her parents picked out reportedly didn't sit too well with the Queen over allegedly being too 'too yuppie'.

On the off-chance you're unfamiliar with 1980s socio-cultural jargon, the term 'yuppie' refers to a fashionable young middle-class person with a well-paid job, short for 'young urban professional' or 'young upwardly-mobile professional'.

While it's not exactly an insult, being considered a 'yuppie' clearly isn't a very royal attribute.

At the time, according to The Sun, Andrew and Fergie wanted to name their baby girl Annabel.

However, Elizabeth was far from on board, the outlet reported, as she allegedly claimed the name was 'too yuppie' - hence why the little tot went unnamed for a full 11 days.

The couple also mused over the idea of 'Victoria' but the matriarch was once again critical.

The name didn't go to waste in the end though, as it later became the first middle name for the pair's second daughter, Princess Eugenie.

Elizabeth eventually got her way and picked out the name Beatrice herself, an idea which was reportedly pitched during the royal family's annual summer gathering at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.

We've seen the name Beatrice on the royal family tree in a few instances now; namely, that the youngest of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert's nine children was a daughter named Princess Beatrice.

Andrew and Fergie, who split in 1996 after tying the knot just a decade prior in 1986, landed on the full name of Beatrice Elizabeth Mary.

The then-newborn's middle names have been interpreted as a tribute to both Queen Elizabeth, whose second middle name is Mary in a tribute to her own grandmother, and Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, who the late sovereign was named after.

Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have since welcomed two children to the world; daughters Sienna, three, and little Athena, who was welcomed to the world six months ago.

The pair gave both girls the middle name of Elizabeth as an homage to their great-grandmother.
