Prince William's favourite Christmas song might not be what you’d expect

The future King also gave radio listeners an insight into the Wales' annual Christmas traditions

There's nothing the Royal Family love more than giving off the impression that they're just the same as us 'ordinary' folk.

With that in mind, Prince William has recently revealed what his favourite seasonal song is.

And let's just say, it's a pretty rogue choice for an attempted 'normal' to make.

The British monarchy have very specific Christmas traditions that they follow during the festive season each and every year.

The highest-up members - usually the Queen/King, their children and grandchildren, and heir siblings and nieces/nephews - usually attend a church service in the morning at St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

Therefore, it's likely this year that we'll see King Charles and Queen Camilla - provided that she is well enough following her recent bout of illness - as well as Prince William, Kate Middleton and their three kids, George, Charlotte and Louis.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will highly likely remain in their Montecito, California home - having stepped down from Royal duties in 2020 - but Prince Andrew and his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie will probably be in attendance.

As will Princess Anne, Zara and Mike Tindall and their kids, and Prince Edward, Sophie Wessex and their's.

Once the service is over, it is understood that each individual family travel separately and spend the remainder of Christmas Day more intimately, with the Wales' travelling home to Kensington Palace to enjoy some much-needed family time.

William discussed his family's specific Christmastime habits this week in an interview with radio host Barry Alston for the young children for the Royal Marsden Hospital, where he also revealed what his favourite festive song is.

And though you might expect the father-of-three to opt for a more mainstream, old-school choice - like Wham!'s 'Last Christmas' or Brenda Lee's 'Rockin' Around The Christmas Choice' - he's actually gone for a pretty unexpected number.

Asked the all important question, the 42-year-old confessed: "For this particular chat with you Barry, I’m gonna say 'Feliz Navidad' is my favourite Christmas song because it’s a bit different."

If you need a little reminder, 'Feliz Navidad' is an entirely Spanish 1970s Christmas song performed by Puerto Rican singer-songwriter José Feliciano - a track that was actually inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2010.

Acknowledging the controversy in his decision, William went on to explain: "I could say Mariah Carey, who I love dearly as well.

"That’s a good one and obviously there are many others, but I think I’ll probably go with 'Feliz Navidad'. It’s a bit more jolly."

William also gave his fans an insight into his favourite festive flick, turning down British bangers like Love Actually and The Holiday and going for an all-American classic.

"I would have to say, probably Elf," the future King laughed.

"It's very funny and I keep watching it every Christmas and it still makes me laugh."

And lastly, giving listeners an insight into his favourite aspect of the 25th, he revealed that he and his three royal youngsters love nothing more than an afternoon playing board games - even if it does get pretty heated.

"We are playing board games with the children quite a lot," he explained. "We love Monopoly, that's good and Risk, have you played Risk before?

"That's a good board game, it goes on for hours and usually everyone gets very cross because they lose.

"But that's what I like playing."
