Many royal fans were left saddened last year after seeing the attire Prince George wore at the 2024 Euro final, which saw England lose out to Spain in a devastating turn.

This weekend sees the Women's 2025 Euro tournament kick off in Switzerland, with opening group games including Switzerland-Norway, Spain-Portugal, Denmark-Sweden and France-England.

With England's Lionesses taking home the trophy from the 2022 Euros, hopes are high here in the UK for another victory from the women for 2025.

The same can't exactly be said for the men's team in 2024, however, with them having been beaten by Spain in the Euro 2024 final at Berlin's Olympiastadion.

The pressure was certainly on, with 1966 being the last year England's men's team won a football trophy. And that pressure was most likely heightened by the future Kings of England being in attendance amongst the 65,000 spectators for the 2024 final in Berlin.

Prince William, Kate Middleton and and their eldest son, Prince George, watched on as England were beaten 2-1 by Spain, with the pair both clearly being engrossed in the game and showing lots of emotion throughout.

William took to Twitter later that day to share his thoughts on the defeat, penning in a heartfelt note: "This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England. W."

While George was - and still is - too young to be on social media, with him being ten at the time, he became a big talking point amongst royal fans over the outfit he wore to the Euro final.

In a twinning moment with his dad, the now 11-year-old turned up wearing a full suit, complete with a tie - not the normal attire for a football match, which many were quick to point out.

"I wish they’d let Prince George wear kids clothes. It’s 2024 & he’s 10…." one wrote, before adding: "Every kid in the country wearing an England shirt tonight except him."

Another added: "Jesus give Prince George an England shirt FFS. Stop wheeling him out in a business suit."

And a third commented: "Poor George in a suit. Get the boy in a kit."

Despite many fans expressing their sadness over George not sporting a football shirt like the majority of fans usually would, it turns out there's a reason he's often seen sporting a matching suit and tie to his dad.

According to Woman and Home, the reason George wears suits to sporting events is because his dad is his 'absolute hero' and he wants to be as much like him as possible.

One royal fan pointed out this very fact, saying: "He wants to dress like his dad, this is what Kate said after euro 2020 at Wembley.

"She said he could have worn his England shirt but wanted to wear a tie and suit like dad does.."

So if George is seen wearing a suit for the Women's 2025 Euros in the next few weeks, you'll know why!
