Prince Andrew has been reported to the police for allegedly using a fake name.

The Duke of York was reported by anti-monarchy group, Republic, after allegedly filing documents under the name, 'Andrew Inverness' for a company called Naples Gold Ltd, which ceased trading in 2021.

The complaint was made to the Metropolitan Police by Republic CEO Graham Smith, who said: "There are lots of questions to answer on this and we deserve an explanation as to why he was using a false name which is clearly in breach of the law. "We’re not suggesting he has committed fraud but they should be challenging him on doing something illegal."

Smith added: "I’ve reported Andrew to the police before and nothing has happened. This is part of a wider issue that there does seem to be impunity for the royals."

Meanwhile, the Met Police has said (via The Times): "The Met received a report relating to a Companies House filing. This report will now be assessed to determine whether any further action is required.

"There is no investigation at this early stage."

The name is thought to be derived from one of his titles, Earl of Inverness.

In a separate blow for the royal this week, a financial firm managing Andrew's investments has shut down.

According to the New York Post, Urramoor Limited has applied to be dissolved 12 months after it received backing from a mystery donor.

The Duke of York set up the fund in 2013 under 'HRH Andrew Inverness'.

Tyla has reached out to Prince Andrew's rep for comment.

The Duke of York stepped down from public duties in back in May 2020 amid the controversy surrounding his years of friendship with convicted sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

He also paid millions to settle a civil sexual assault case with Virginia Giuffre, a woman he claimed never to have met.

A settlement is not an admission of guilt and the Duke of York has consistently denied all wrongdoing.

At the time, a statement from the Prince and Giuffre read: "Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew have reached an out of court settlement. The parties will file a stipulated dismissal upon Ms Giuffre's receipt of the settlement (the sum of which is not being disclosed). Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Ms Giuffre's charity in support of victims' rights.

"Prince Andrew regrets his association with Epstein, and commends the bravery of Ms Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others.

"He pledges to demonstrate his regret for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking, and by supporting its victims."
