True meaning behind each photo on Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new Christmas card

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released their annual Christmas card earlier this week

Earlier this week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex released their annual Christmas card, featuring six photos taken over the past 12 months.

"On behalf of the office of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Archewell Productions and Archewell Foundation," the public card's message began on a dark green background. "We wish you a very happy holiday season and a joyful new year."

The card gave royal fans a glimpse at the children, who were last seen by the public during a brief appearance in the couple's Harry & Meghan docuseries which landed on Netflix back in 2022.

In one photo - and arguably the most talked about since the card was released - the couple brought their two children and their dogs to join in on the sweet snap.

The image in question looks to have been captured on the grounds of their Montecito mansion, with the couple having left the UK for California in 2020 after stepping down from their royal duties in a move dubbed by critics as 'Megxit'.

In the snap, Archie, five and Lilibet, three could be seen running into their parents' arms, with their three dogs also featuring alongside.

But as well as the cute family photo, there were five others that made the card.

All five of the photos were taken during the couple's trips to Nigeria and Columbia this year, while visiting as part of their charitable work for their Archewell Foundation.

In one snap, Meghan can be seen hugging a young student in Colegio La Giralda, while a sweet moment captured Harry kissing Meghan's head at the National Centre for the Arts in Bogotá.

Meanwhile, the bottom middle photo shows the pair couple in San Basilio de Palenque near Cartagena.

When the pair visited Nigeria in May, Harry was also captured holding the hand of a wounded soldier at a hospital in Kaduna. The touching image was taken by photographer, Misan Harriman.

"Are they helping you? Are you feeling better?" Prince Harry asked the soldier, Private Habu Sadiq, adding: "Get better, be strong."

Meanwhile, the final photo - on the bottom far left of the card - shows the couple at the Lightway Academy in Abuja.

The pair can be seen laughing together as they marked their first tour since they stepped away from their senior roles within the royal family.

Earlier this week, a royal expert revealed the one 'mistake' that Harry and Meghan made with their card.

Speaking exclusively to Tyla on behalf of Slingo, Grant Harrold - who previously served in Buckingham Palace as the official butler to Harry's father, King Charles III - pointed out the 'mistake' made by the Sussexes by comparing it to other royal couples.

"A traditional royal Christmas card we’ve seen from the King or the Princess of Wales is normally just a photograph," he began.

"Since I’ve been working with the Royal family, it’s always been quite simple with one photograph.

"Harry and Meghan’s card this year is very different. It’s more of a montage.

"[This] isn’t the correct thing to do. It’s not very Royal."
