Melania Trump’s 'tight fist' during Kate Middleton meeting prompts brutal theory

The First Lady landed at Windsor Castle for her second state visit to the UK

A body language expert has been assessing footage of Melania Trump's arrival in Windsor earlier today, claiming the First Lady may have shown some signs of feeling rather out of sorts.

She and the president's transatlantic visit sees the couple making history as the very first political leaders to be officially welcomed back onto UK soil for royal reasons, after the late Queen Elizabeth II first hosted the Trumps in 2019.

After landing on their Marine One chopper, they were first met by the Prince and Princess of Wales, who escorted them to the castle, where King Charles and Queen Camilla were waiting for them.

Following a number of handshakes, the trio of women seemed to branch off and enjoy a close-knit conversation.

However, a human behaviour expert has since been taking a closer look at Melania's interactions with the British royals - Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla specifically.

And apparently, the First Lady gave a number of physical indicators that she wasn't completely relaxed with the high-profile group, whether inadvertently or otherwise.

Speaking to Tyla on behalf of OLBG, body language pro Inbaal Honigman firstly explained that first appearances often don't tell the whole story.

"There’s a photo of Melania from the back talking with Princess Catherine and Camilla is in between them - it’s a fabulous picture," she began.

"As the ladies assemble for a chat, the most comfortable of the three appears to be Queen Camilla because her feet are placed slightly apart whereas both Catherine and Melania’s feet are close together."

Honing in on the Queen's physicality, Honigman continues: "When somebody stands with their feet apart, it means they’re happy to take up extra space and means they are content. Their hands tell the rest of the story.

"Even though their facial expressions are similar across the board, with both Kate, Camilla and Melania all flashing neutral, calm smiles, their hands are very different."

Moving on to Kate, the observer went on to point out: "Kate’s hands are in front of her, in a way that could be seen as slightly protective, but her fingers are widely splayed. This shows she feels at ease in the situation."

Apparently, however, Melania's hand placement, in contrast, shows she's feeling outside of her comfort zone.

"Her hand is noticeably tight into her fist - that shows she may feel like a fish out of water, a bit tense in that conversation," Honigman went on before focusing on the extreme hat that the First Lady wears, which blocks her from the view of spectators, as well as the cameras present.

"This is not the first time we observe Melania in a low, wide-brimmed hat. In body language terms, this serves two functions.

"Firstly, it creates a safe space around her so nobody can get too close. Secondly, the hat can act as a cloak of invisibility, allowing the First Lady to employ all manner of facial expressions undetected."

She went on to say: "So much of non-verbal communication is executed by facial expressions that it can be more than 50% of body language.

"As the wide-brimmed hat slung low, it hides Melania’s forehead, eyebrows and - to a certain extent - her eyes, therefore making it hard to detect any sense of annoyance or frustration. Those emotions are conveyed via the forehead, the eyebrows, and eyes."
