Melania Trump makes surprise claim about Donald’s political views as she reveals why she won’t be staying in White House

It comes ahead of her husband's official swearing-in ceremony on Monday

While revealing where she is going to spend the next four years, Melania Trump claims she and her husband, President-elect Donald Trump don’t ‘always agree’ when it comes to politics.

54-year-old Melania, who first served as the First Lady of the United States between 2017 to 2021, is set to step back into the role when Trump, 78, is sworn in as President Joe Biden’s successor on 20 January.

The inauguration is set to be attended by the likes of former President Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.

One person who will not be in attendance is America’s former First Lady Michelle Obama, with her office having already ruled her out of the proceedings.

Ahead of the inauguration, Trump’s wife of almost 20 years Melania has revealed how she feels about returning to the First Lady role.

“I feel I was always me the first time as well, I just feel that people didn't accept me maybe,” she told Fox and Friends.

“They didn't understand me the way maybe they do now. And I didn't have much support. Maybe some people, they see me as just a wife of the president, but I'm standing on my own two feet. Independent.

“I have my own thoughts, I have my own ‘yes’ and ‘no’.”

The mother-of-one also made a rare comment on how she feels about Trump’s political views. She claimed she ‘doesn’t always agree’ with what her husband is saying or doing before remarking she often tries to give him her ‘advice’ on various matters when they do butt heads.

"I gave him my advice, and sometimes he listens. Sometimes he doesn't and that's okay." Melania said.

The claim comes amid speculation that Melania will not be residing at the White House full-time over the next four years.

Instead, she revealed she would split time between Washington DC, New York, and Floria during her spouse’s second term in office.

“I will be in the White House and, you know, when I need to be in New York, I will be in New York,” she stated. “When I need to be in Palm Beach, I will be in Palm Beach. But my first priority is, you know, to be a mom, to be a first lady, to be a wife. And once we are in on Jan. 20, you serve the country.”

During Trump’s first reign, Melania broke the mould by refusing to move into the White House immediately after her husband had been sworn in.

As per a report by the BBC, she and her son Barron, 18, had stayed in New York to finish the school year and moved in five months later.

The unusual decision marked her as the First Lady in recent history not to relocate to the capital immediately—a decision author Andrew Och claims is because it wasn’t her ‘goal’ to achieve the prestigious position.

“She had a perfectly fine life. I think the fact that she moved to DC at all and performed any of the duties speaks to the fact that she did understand the public perception of obligation,” he told USA Today.
