Megyn Kelly slams Donald Trump with 'shocking' corruption claim

She might have endorsed him back in 2024, but Megyn Kelly has doubled down on her major U-turn against Donald Trump.

In a fiery new interview, the political commentator accused Trump of achieving 'shocking' new levels of corruption since returning to the White House last year for a second stint, thanks to the help of his administration officials.

Kelly's controversial comments were made during an appearance on the right-leaning Hodgetwins Podcast, where she began: "I have to be honest, I didn’t expect the corruption to be quite as widespread as it has been."

The 55-year-old continued: "The self-dealing, the lining of his and his family’s pockets. That's been a little shocking. I just didn't expect Trump to be so disrespectful of his base."

After one of the show's presenters joked that the Republican frontman hasn't 'taken a salary' since re-entering the Oval Office, Kelly laughed: "Right. You look across the board at the Trump family, I’ve never seen a family get so rich off the presidency.

"It happened at the same time as we now have a Supreme Court ruling which says any official act he takes while in the White House is protected."

Kelly noted: "Those two things seem to be giving him some kind of a hall pass that could very much get abused.

"I don't want to say he's crossed the line legally because I actually haven't taken a close look at that, but he's done a lot that pushes it right up to the line."

The reporter added: "I just don't think we want our presidents or their families getting rich off the presidency - and I really wanna know more about all these trades that are happening in Iran right before he makes the announcement.

"This is not the way it's supposed to be. Even one of those would have caused a massive scandal 12-13 years ago. We shouldn't be so far afield that these obvious, ethical questions go past with just a shoulder shrug."

As a reminder, when Trump first announced his plans to run for the presidency again, Kelly was a keen advocate.

So much so that the Sirius XM presenter took to the stage alongside the father-of-five at a Pennsylvania rally in 2024, explaining to attendees why he'd managed to wrangle her support, describing him as a 'protector of women'.

It didn't take long after Trump was voted back in, however, for Kelly to begin expressing her qualms over his leadership style.

The primary catalyst for her total pivot against him, however, was the 79-year-old's aggressive handling of the military conflict with Iran.

Ever since Trump fired the first missile at Tehran in collaboration with Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu in February, Kelly has slammed his social media rhetoric and comments regarding the future of Iran.

After he vowed to 'wipe out' the country's entire civilisation if the country's leaders failed to abide by his ceasefire, she branded his behaviour 'completely irresponsible and disgusting'.

During an interview with Piers Morgan, Kelly argued that an American president should not be casually threatening war crimes against millions of innocent civilians to resolve trade and military disputes.

She also criticised Trump for welcoming Netanyahu 'as an equal', adding: "What led him to sit there and buy what that guy was selling hook, line and sinker, when every other president was able to see through that liar."
