The White House has called out Star Wars actor Mark Hamill for a post he shared about United States President Donald Trump.
Earlier this week (6 May), the Hollywood A-lister, best known for starring as Luke Skywalker in the iconic Star Wars films, captioned the Bluesky post 'If Only'.
It featured an AI-generated image of Trump lying in a grave surrounded by followers with a gravestone above him reading 'Donald J. Trump 1946-2024'.
Hamill included a short statement to go with the image, which read: "He should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted & humiliated for his countless crimes."

The 74-year-old added: "Long enough to realise he'll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore."
The actor signed off the post with the hashtag '#don_TheCON'.
It didn't take long for the White House's Rapid Response X account to respond to Hamill's post, writing in a tweet yesterday (7 May): ".@MarkHamill is one sick individual.
"These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves.:
The White House added: "This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President."
Hamill has since deleted the original post, adding in a separate message an 'Accurate Edit for Clarity' where he also apologised to anyone who found the AI image 'inappropriate'.
"He should live long enough to... be held accountable for his... crimes," he wrote, resolving: "Actually, I was wishing him the opposite of dead, but apologise if you found the image inappropriate. "
The heated exchange comes after a man named Cole Tomas Allen was charged over an alleged attempt to assassinate Trump during last month’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C.
Prosecutors say the 31-year-old travelled from California armed with a shotgun, pistol and knives before trying to breach a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton hotel, where Trump and thousands of guests were attending the high-profile event.
According to investigators, Allen fired at a Secret Service officer during the incident, though the officer survived due to body armour.
Security agents quickly subdued him and evacuated Trump and other officials as guests reportedly hid under tables during the panic.
Allen now faces multiple federal charges, including attempted assassination of the president and assaulting a federal officer. Authorities claim he left behind writings criticising Trump administration policies and believe the attack was politically motivated.
