The world has been counting down the hours until United States president, Donald Trump, announced his highly-anticipated 'Liberation Day' tariffs.

The announcement in question, which comes about as trade wars continue to escalate across the globe, has seen the 78-year-old Republican reveal his latest round of reciprocal tariffs - taxes placed on goods that are imported into a country - on countries he considers to be giving the US a bad deal on trade at the White House.

Now, as we know, Trump has time and time again repeated the idea of imposing these reciprocal tariffs as, just last Sunday (30 March), he said 'all countries' could expect to be hit by tariffs.

When a reporter asked whether it was true he was planning on targeting between 10 and 15 countries, Trump hit back speaking from Air Force One: "Who told you 10-15 countries? You didn't hear it from me."

And, when pressed on how many countries he was planning to hit, he replied: "You'd start with all countries, let's see what happens."

A few days prior, Trump explained that he was open to striking up deals with countries seeking to avoid US tariffs - however, such agreements would need to be negotiated after 'Liberation Day'.

He had previously said he 'may give a lot of countries breaks, but it's reciprocal', adding: "We might be even nicer than that."

Trump’s press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, added that Trump was spending Tuesday (1 April) 'perfecting' the trade plan.

"He is with his trade and tariff team right now, perfecting it to make sure this is a perfect deal for the American people and the American worker," she said.

Well, we've now been issued all the details as Trump has now officially shared his plans for rolling out these tariffs in his latest announcement today (2 April).

Speaking in the Rose Garden of the White House today, Trump began: "This is Liberation Day. We've been waiting for a long time, April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America's destiny was reclaimed, and the day that we began to ''Make America Wealthy Again'."

He continued: "For decades our country has been looted, pillaged, raped and plundered from nations, near and far, from both friend and foe alike."

Showing a 'Reciprocal Tariffs' chart to the audience, Trump revealed that the United Kingdom will face tariffs of 10 per cent as he said levies will not be fully reciprocal rate but will instead be half the tariff rate.

He also said that China was imposing tariffs of 67 per cent and declared that the US would impose a 34 per cent tariff back.

The EU faces also faces 20 per cent tariffs.

Brazil and Singapore were hit with 10 per cent tariffs, the same level as Britain while rates ranged from 10 per cent to 49 per cent on the chart he held up.

Switzerland faces levies of 31 percent, South Africa 30 per cent, Indonesia 32 per cent, Vietnam 46 per cent and Cambodia 49 per cent.

Trump said: "For years, hard-working American citizens were forced to sit on the sidelines as other nations got rich and powerful, much of it at our expense. But now it’s our turn to prosper."

He previously reiterated that, effective from midnight, the US will impose a 25 per cent tariff on all foreign made cars saying: "They charge us, we charge them. How can anybody be upset?"

"This will be the golden age of America. It’s coming back," he claimed.
