A new book has claimed to spill the beans on what Donald Trump and Barack Obama were talking about during that viral moment at Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

The late ex-president's funeral took place earlier this year on 9 January - and it’s safe to say that people were surprised to see the political rivals seemingly getting on like a house on fire.

Photos and videos from the service showed the American President, 79, and his predecessor, 63, laughing and chatting away while seated next to each other.

This, of course, sparked speculation online about what they could possibly be talking about, with their very different views and policies taken into account.

For the last six months, various different lip readers have also given it a go at trying to work out what the topic of conversation was.

At the time, Trump himself even spoke out about it after the footage went viral on social media, claiming he had no idea it would stir up such a response.

Watch for yourself here:

"I didn't realise how friendly it looked," he confessed when asked by press. "I said, 'boy, they look like two people that like each other'. And we probably do."

Discussing their political opposition, Trump went on to tell reporters: "We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don't know. We just got along."

He then threw in the joke: "But I got along with just about everybody."

Well now, a brand new book by three political reporters is claiming to know the answer - and it’s quite surprising.

According to '2024', the new book by Josh Dawsey, Tyler Pager and Isaac Arnsdorf, the Republican leader was simply asking the democrat if he wanted to play golf with him.

The passage reads: “He sat next to Barack Obama and invited him to play golf, enticing him with descriptions of Trump’s courses around the world,” reports the New York Post.

It’s no secret that the American President is a huge golfing fan and owns a number of courses across the globe.

The most famous is arguably the course at his Mar-a-Lago resort in sunny Palm Beach, Florida, which he lovingly refers to as his ‘winter White House’.

Although it seems like Obama is yet to take him up on the offer, who knows, maybe it could be on the cards for the unlikely duo.

Trump and Obama have famously never seen eye-to-eye, with the US President previously accusing Obama of having ordered FBI officers to 'spy' on his campaign during his initial term in office.

Obama has also frequently teased Trump since he left the White House - including discussing his 'weird obsession with crowd sizes', holding his hands around four inches apart, which some people seemed to think meant he was poking fun at his manhood.

Back in October, Obama also made a jab at Trump's lengthy speeches, describing him as 'like Fidel Castro - just on and on.'

Tyla have contacted the White House and a representative for Obama for comment.
