Simone Biles made history this week when she became the most decorated US gymnast in Olympic history, after landing her eighth medal on Tuesday when she and teammates Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera landed gold in the team final.
Her latest medal also marked her 38th between both the Olympics and the World Championships, which is also a record for gymnasts – women and men.
"Honestly, I would have had to Google that," she told press when asked about her all-time record.
"I don't keep count, I don't keep stats. I just go out here and do what I'm supposed to and I'm doing what I love and enjoying it, so that's really all that matters to me."

While Biles seems keen to brush off the praise, there’s one person who’s making sure she gets ALL the hype in the world, and that’s her husband Jonathan Owens.
Paying tribute to his missus on Instagram, he wrote: “Witnessing history every time you step on the mat.
“Congrats baby on becoming the most decorated American gymnast in Olympic history!!!! Just wow!!!! 8 of them!!!!! So thankful I was there to see it.”
The post was accompanied by two snaps of him and Biles smiling at the camera, with Owens proudly wearing her gold medal around his neck – a detail that some fans found strange.
“Why he holding it like he won it?” one commented.
Someone else said: “I’m annoyed that he’s holding it like bfffr it’s not YOURS.”
A third agreed: “Ooooh noooo! This is ALL WRONG!!! Simone should be sporting her own gold medal that she worked hard for! I don’t care if it is her husband!”
But others weren’t as rattled by the photos, simply pointing out that they seemed to show a lot of love, regardless of who was wearing the medal.
“Yall sound so bitter on here talking about ‘it’s not his’,” one person fumed, adding: “They are a team! It’s probably nights where he cooked dinner cause she was tired or talked her thru jitters before a performance or just held her when she cried from ALL OF YOU BULLIES… that man won that medal WITH her so I think him wearing it is well deserved. Good job Husband!”
Another agreed: “You guys are the sweetest. I absolutely love your love. It’s the sweetest thing to watch! Give your girl a big hug from all of us here in the US. We’re so proud of her.”
