The man who was due to be on the helicopter that crashed and killed singer Oliver Tree and five others has now spoken publicly about the tragedy.

The fatal mid-air collision happened over the weekend (14 June) when two helicopters crashed during a flight in Brazil.

'Miss You' star Oliver, 32, was among those killed, alongside YouTuber Gaspi, Lucas Brito Chaves, Lucas Vignale, and pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marsillac.

Investigators are still working to establish the exact cause of the crash, although one police investigator has suggested human error may have been a factor, per ABC.

"Investigators from the Third Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (SERIPA III), based in Rio de Janeiro (RJ), were called to carry out the Initial Action of the incident involving two aircraft, registration numbers PP-MAC and PR-DJJ, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro (RJ)," the Brazilian Air Force said.

"During the Initial Action, qualified and accredited professionals apply specific techniques for data collection and confirmation, preservation of evidence, initial verification of damage caused to or by the aircraft, and gathering other information necessary for the investigation."

Victor Wao, a music producer and close friend of Lucas, was also expected to be on the flight, surviving only because he chose not to travel by helicopter.

According to Victor, his fear of flying led to a last-minute change of plans with Lucas arranging alternative transport for him, a decision that ultimately saved his life.

Reflecting on the events, Victor said via The Tab: "I was supposed to be with you in that helicopter, but I didn’t go at the last minute. You told me that, since I was afraid of flying, you had gotten a car to take me to Angra."

Following Lucas' death, Victor shared a series of photos on Instagram alongside a tribute to his friend.

He wrote: "THANK YOU FOR BEING THE BEST FRIEND I COULD ASK GOD FOR! I will always remember you with that smile on your face that enchanted everyone! I love you, See you on the other side @iamlucasfrota @frotographs_ I love you forever."

In a follow-up Instagram Stories post, Victor shared a photo beside Lucas' coffin and wrote: "It was hard to say goodbye to you today, brother, but you will never be forgotten. I love you! I promise that your dream will continue to live within us and we will honour it."

Oliver, who had been travelling through Rio de Janeiro when the incident occurred, was halfway through his Love You Madly, Hate You Badly album world tour, which began in Mexico City, and was set to continue through China, Japan, Antarctica, New Zealand and South Africa in the coming weeks.
