Smartphone users have claimed one of the nine incoming new emojis is about to replace a popular meme image - here’s everything you need to know, including when you can expect to use the new digital icons.

The Unicode Consortium, a nonprofit foundation that upholds the Unicode Standard, has added a handful of new emojis to the 2025 list.

Stereo Gum reported that the nine unfortunately won’t be available when iOS 26 officially arrives on Apple devices in September.

This probably means that the likelihood of us using them on our iPhones before early 2026 is slim.

But we’ve waited this long for the nine; what’s a few months more?

Below, we’ve outlined what you can expect from the Unicode Consortium-approved emojis, as well as the prediction one smartphone user has made that we agree may come true.

We’re already overladen with variations of the smiley face emoji - but what’s the harm in adding another one to the mix?

Introducing the Distorted Face emoji. Fox News says that this one can convey confusion, disbelief, or being overwhelmed.

However, we also think it could show that you’ve got some serious tea to spill, and you just can’t wait to get it out.

Apple Core

People have made a serious case for the upcoming Apple Core emoji, claiming it’s going to be the new Wilting Rose.

The latter emoji is favoured by young social media users, used to depict ‘cringe’ sentiments, discuss heartbreak, and is often found in copypasta.

One Instagram user wrote: “Apple core is about to become the new [wilted rose] you can quote me on that.”

“My thoughts exactly,” said someone else.

You'd better come back here in six months’ time to see if they were right.

Hairy Creature

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it’s the legendary hairy Sasquatch/Bigfoot/Yeti, arriving shortly on your emoji keyboard.

We think this one will be perfect for when you’re hinting at mysterious goings on with your mates or just to show you finally watched Sasquatch Sunset with Jesse Eisenberg and Riley Keough.

Treasure Chest

Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise will already know the sixth film is in development - and what better way to celebrate its dramatic big screen return than with an overflowing Treasure Chest emoji?

Killer Whale

For years, Redditors and Instagram users alike have been questioning why an Orca emoji has yet to make it onto their keyboards. But soon they’ll have another fishy friend to share during RMS conversations with friends. Hurray!

Trombone

The Unicode Consortium has finally approved the Trombone emoji, adding to the keyboard’s vast instrument offerings.

According to CBS News, students from the Science and Mathematics Academy at Aberdeen High School first submitted a proposal for a trombone emoji back in 2019.

Over five years later, their dreams are finally about to come true.

Fight Cloud

Remember watching one of your Sims lash out at one of the neighbourhood NPCs?

The pair would be enveloped by a thick wad of smoke before one of them was eventually crowned the winner, the other bumped to the floor in pain: that’s the new Fight Cloud emoji.

Perfect for letting your sister know that they ate the leftovers you were saving in the fridge, or for delivering indirect film and TV spoilers. Whatever floats your boat, really.

Ballet Dancers

There are already two main dancing emojis: the red-dressed woman, the purple-suited groover. Soon, you’ll be able to use the ballet dancer emoji in your messages, too.

Available in multiple skin tones, the danseuse is a set-up from the ballet shoe emoji introduced as part of Emoji Version 12.0, and is sure to be a hit.
