After days of waiting, Joe Biden was finally confirmed to be the President-Elect of the United States of America this weekend.

It was a closely-run race between Biden, 77, and current President Donald Trump, with Biden winning enough electoral college seats when the state of Pennsylvania declared the Democrat candidate had won.

And Biden's granddaughter has posted the exact moment the news was announced to the family.

Taking to Twitter, law student Naomi Biden shared a photo of the entire family rallying around the President-Elect in a huge group hug.

Naomi, who is studying at Columbia Law School, has been a staunch supporter of her grandfather throughout the turbulent and often ill-tempered election, telling voters to "be patient and stay calm" when results looked too close to call.

CNN previously reported that it was Biden's grandchildren who told him that the race had been called in his favour.

Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris have made history in this election, with Biden receiving more votes than any other presidential candidates in history.

Vice President-in-waiting Harris, 56, will also be the first woman, and the first person of colour, to serve in the role.

Here at Tyla, we have complied Biden's stances on women's rights - with the President-Elect staunchly pro-choice, equal-pay and hoping to allocate more funds for child and senior care.

Trump is yet to concede as President, and has now claimed he will be taking the matter to a the High Courts as he believes there has been fraudulent voting. However, there is no evidence to substantiate these claims.

In other election news, Biden will be the first president to have a rescue dog when he enters the White House.

His German Shepherd, Major, is a rescue pup that joined the Biden tribe in 2018.

Biden also owns a second German Shepherd, Champ, who he adopted in 2008.
