Donald Trump and Melania Trump have tested positive for Covid-19.

The President of the US, 74, took to his Twitter account earlier this morning to announce the news, explaining he and the First Lady, 50, are now both in quarantine.

"Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19," he wrote.

"We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!"

The news comes after one of the President's aides, Hope Hicks, 31, also tested positive earlier this week. At the time, Trump wrote on Twitter: "Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible!

"The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!"

Hope had travelled with the President to the presidential TV debate with Democrat Joe Biden, on Tuesday.

"This evening I received confirmation that both President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump have tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

"The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence.
