If you've ever wanted to know what animals get up to at night, then you might soon be able to at Chester Zoo.
Chester Zoo currently has plans to build new overnight lodges as well as a restaurant so guests can stay the night super close to the animals in a safari-style experience.
The zoo unveiled the plans submitted to the council this week, and the lodges look out of the giraffe enclosures. It is also hoping to build a large restaurant with stunning views across the animal and wildlife sanctuary, with lakes in the backdrop.
These new proposed plans are part of Chester Zoo's new Grasslands proposal, which will open to the public in 2022.
The Grasslands is set to be an open African savannah habitat, which will provide a safe home for rare and endangered species like the Rothschild's giraffe, Grevy's zebra, ostriches and antelopes.
According to the submitted plans, the zoo's restaurant will have a balcony and guests will be able to look out across the savannah as if they are on a safari.
If Chester Zoo's plans go ahead, a total of 42 safari-style lodges will be built for guests to stay in overnight.
It is currently unclear how much an overnight stay will be and how many people each safari-style lodge will be able to sleep.
The planning application states: "On entering, spectacular views of the Savannah unfold. The building provides a visual and activity focus at the heart of Grasslands. Visitors can sit, relax, eat and drink taking a rest on their journey around the Zoo and at the same time enjoying dramatic views of the Savannah Habitat and its animal residents lake side."
"These Grassland habitats are overviewed by a new Restaurant perched high up on the Kopje rocks from where guests will get great views across the savannah and the surrounding habitats. The Overnight Stays consists of a Reception building, and a series of lodges and tents overlooking a lake and with views of the Bachelor Giraffe habitat providing a unique visitor experience."
A safari experience without having to even leave the country. Marvellous!
