It's no secret that parents are good at embarrassing their children, but one mum took it to a new level when she mooned the crowd at her daughter's sports day.

Katie Hannaford, 36, from Essex, has now spoken out after the blunder caused by possibly the most unfortunate fall in the world went viral. Watch below:

While most people would want to crawl under a rock and never return after an incident like that, she has decided to 'own it.'

Katie admitted that she was unsurprisingly embarrassed at first, but looking back, she's found her stroke of terrible luck 'hilarious'.

She explained that she didn't want to participate in the sports day activity in the first place, but her daughter, eight, somehow managed to talk her into it.

The mum explained how the fall - quite literally - went down and explained that she 'tripped over my own feet.'

Katie said it's the funniest thing she's ever done.

"I think my body was just moving too fast for my legs! I'm so clumsy, I'm always falling over.

"I was humiliated at the time, but it is what it is! I flashed my underwear which is obviously embarrassing but you just have to own it.

"Looking back, it's hilarious - definitely the funniest thing I've ever done in my life!"

The comments on the viral video were just as funny as the footage itself, which saw Katie, who was wearing a blue dress, faceplant shortly after the race began.

After she fell, her dress blew up, only to reveal her black underwear and bottom to each and every spectator.

One viewer joked: "Pity it wasn't a cold day then everyone could have warmed their hands from her red face!"

"I think she won the race hands down and stole the show lol," remarked another as a third joked: "Bit of a bummer."

Thankfully, Katie has a good sense of humour.

However, one viewer did worry about Katie's daughter in the wake of the viral post.

They wrote: "That's some bullying material right there, poor child [sic]."

Now, if there's anything to be taken from this video, we reckon it's this: if your child manages to coax you into a sports day activity, don't do it while wearing a dress!

And if you are wearing one, just be sure that you're wearing underwear that you don't mind being seen by the masses online!

All of which begs the question, have you ever done anything this embarrassing?
