Two men have been arrested after walking into a Sainsbury's store and allegedly smearing their saliva over products.

The men, who were captured on CCTV, entered the supermarket's Lancaster Road store in Morecambe, Lancashire, at around 1.45pm on Saturday 4th April.

According to reports, the men then proceeded to wipe their saliva over the store's meat, fresh produce and fridge handles.

Following the incident, Lancashire Police confirmed the supermarket were forced to thoroughly disinfect the entire store and destroy some contaminated products.

Inspector James Martin of the force, said: "That anyone could think this sort of behaviour is appropriate or amusing even in normal times is beyond me, but at this time of crisis when many people have been faced with empty shelves in some shops is flabbergasting.

"It is utterly despicable and I would appeal for anyone who knows who these people are to get in touch."

The other was described as also in his early 20s, white, also with dark hair, wearing a black jacket, white hooded top, black tracksuit bottoms and hiking boots.

Since, police have arrested two men believed to be the suspects.

This isn't the first time the current COVID-19 crisis has seemed to bring out the worst in humanity.

Last month, a coronavirus community responder returned from a call to find her tyres slashed.

Helen Crouch, 41, who volunteers in the villages around Leicestershire where she lives delivering food and medicines to the elderly, was distraught to find thugs had punctured her tires, smashed her windows and keyed her VW Touareg last month.
