A live streamer who had been 'tortured' for 10 days while broadcasting had sent a final message to his mum just days before his death.

Raphaël Graven, better known as Jean Pormanove or 'JP', was just 46 years old when he was found dead in his sleep in his home in Contes, near Nice, on Monday (18 August), during a live-stream.

He had built up a sizeable following of more than one million followers across numerous social media platforms, most notably Kick. He had reportedly gained notoriety for controversial streams, which saw him reportedly experience violence and sleep deprivation.

French media have also seen excerpts of the streams where he suffers from alleged blows, insults, strangulation, and being shot at by a paint gun (via Reuters).

According to Sky News, viewers became concerned when they saw him lying lifeless on a mattress and not responding to their comments.

According to a French publication, Le Monde, the streamer had sent a message to his mother detailing his unhappiness.

He reportedly wrote: "I feel like I am being held hostage, I'm fed up with these streams."

Clara Chappaz, France’s Minister Delegate for Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digital Affairs, said that Pormanove was 'humiliated and mistreated for months live on the Kick platform', with a judicial investigation into his death being confirmed to be underway.

Nice's prosecutor's office has also ordered an autopsy, as they said in a statement: "At this stage, there is nothing suspicious, interviews are underway, and an autopsy will be performed."

Prosecutor Damien Martinelli later confirmed that equipment and videos had been seized for the investigation 'to clarify the events that occurred prior to the death and which may have contributed to it'.

He added: "Several interviews with people present at the time of the death have been conducted, but at this stage they have not provided any guidance as to the causes of the death."

A spokesperson for Kick told LADbible Group in a statement: "We are urgently reviewing the circumstances and engaging with relevant stakeholders to investigate the situation.

"Kick's community guidelines are designed to protect creators, and we remain committed to upholding these standards across our platform."

Meanwhile, over on X, Kick Francais said: "Our priority is to protect creators and ensure a safer environment on Kick.

"We are deeply saddened by the passing of Jean Pormanove and extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and community.

"All co-streamers who participated in this live broadcast have been banned pending the ongoing investigation.

"We are committed to fully cooperating with the authorities in this process. Additionally, we have terminated our collaboration with the former French social media agency and are undertaking a comprehensive review of our French content.
