Haribo fans are spiralling after finding out what flavour the green gummy bear is.

The thing about this famous UK sweet mix is that people generally can always guess what flavour they’re eating, either by taste or the colour.

There’s red, which is almost always strawberry, yellow, which is usually lemon or pineapple, green, which is apple or lime, purple, which is blackcurrant, and then blue can be raspberry, blueberry, or whatever it chooses to be.

Except, that’s just not correct when it comes to Haribo Goldbears.

You think you know a brand, and then they pull the wool over your eyes and when it’s revealed, you feel like you’ve been ‘lied to’.

Well, that’s what fans have been saying after they found out what the green gummy bear is actually flavoured.

It all began when a Reddit post shared an image of the flavours of each of the coloured gummy bears, and people lost the plot.

Sadly, it showed that the green Haribo Goldbear isn’t apple, lime, or anything green that you’d expect.

Many had previously thought it would be a citrus fruit, or even something tropical, however, that’s just not what the company was going for.

No, the flavour comes from a red fruit instead.

Strawberry, to be exact.

I know; who in their right mind would flavour a green bear with a red fruit? Haribo would.

Of course, this revelation caused a wee bit of upset, with many slamming the brand and telling them they lied to them.

To be honest, considering the flavour is listed on its website, it’s not like they lied at all. But I digress.

Online, people took out their frustrations, with one person writing on X: “20 years of living and it’s only now that I figured out that the green Haribo gummy bear is actually strawberry flavored.”

Another said: “Calling the police over whether the green Haribo gummy bears are strawberry or apple.”

“No one asked, but the green Haribo gummy bear flavor is strawberry, and I find that misleading,” somebody else wrote.

Another said: “Man, now I don’t know what to think.”

Someone else wrote: “I feel lied to.”

As per Haribo’s website, here are the list of flavours to each coloured gummy: “The green Goldbear is Strawberry; the yellow Goldbear is Lemon; the orange Goldbear is Orange; the red Goldbear is Raspberry; and the translucent Goldbear is Pineapple.”

Haribo has since responded to the exposed flavours by telling the New York Post: “Haribo’s mission is to inspire childlike happiness through our gummi treats, and we love surprising consumers with fun flavor, shape, color, and texture combinations.

“Strawberry Goldbear being green is a perfect example of a surprise and delight, and we want to make sure Raspberry Goldbear shines on its own as red, along with Orange, Lemon, and of course Pineapple.”

Some people online even went as far as to say that it reminded them of a Reddit story where a husband was caught lying about the green gummy bear flavour for 13 years as his wife hates lime-flavoured sweets, and when she found out she began to eat them out of spite- leaving him gummy-less.
