Gypsy Rose Blanchard has revealed the startling item she found in her mum’s purse that changed everything she thought she knew.
The 34-year-old was released from prison in 2023 after being convicted of the murder of her abusive mother, Clauddine ‘Dee Dee’ Blanchard.
She plotted with her boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to kill her mother after years of abuse. He stabbed Dee Dee to death with a knife Gypsy gave him and the pair fled the scene in Missouri.

They were arrested hundreds of miles away in Wisconsin where Godejohn lived. He is serving a life sentence without parole.
Dee Dee had Munchausen by proxy, a rare mental health condition and a serious form of abuse that occurs when a caregiver, such as a parent, deliberately fakes and exaggerates, or induces physical or mental illness of their child or the dependent under their care.

Those with Munchausen by proxy often go to extreme lengths to convince doctors that their victims are sick, which may include lying about symptoms, altering medical tests or physically harming their child or dependent.
In a brand-new podcast she has given a heartbreaking testimony about the abuse she underwent from her mother stating that she was ‘restrained to a bed with a dog leash’ for two weeks.
Speaking to Paul C Brunson on the We Need to Talk podcast, Gypsy Rose explained that she ran away from home after going through her mum’s purse which led to a shocking discovery.
The 34-year-old explained: “I was going through my mom's purse, and I found my health insurance card, and it said my birthday was 1991.
“And so I'm like, ‘that would make me like 18, 19, not 15’.
“So I tell this to him and I'm like, well, that would make me legal. Like, I can go live with you, like, you know, like all these sort of like ideas. And he's like, well, if you're legal, then you could just get up and leave, like, you can just leave. And I'm like, I don't have a car, I don't have a way to leave>”

Gypsy Rose recalled running away but her plan came to a halt when she was recognised. “So I pack a bag, and in the middle of the night, I get out of my mom's bed, packed bag, go out the front door, hitchhiked, meet him at the hospital, and he didn't have a home. He was couch surfing at his friends. And so we go to his friends.
“They realise that I'm there and they recognise me from the convention, and they realise this girl is 15 years old. So they got in contact with a mutual friend of my mom's, told my mom where I was. Four hours later, my mom comes to pick me up. And she told me, if you come back with me, I'll let you see him, manipulation to the fullest.”
Dee Dee went to disturbing lengths to ensure Gypsy Rose could not escape again. "So I go back with my mum, and that’s when I got chained, tied… she took a dog leash and clipped it and tied it to a pair of, like, handcuffs and then put it around the bed. And then whenever, like, I would need to go to the bathroom, she would undo it.
“It was like that for two weeks. She put bells on the doors and then eventually put a padlock on the door. Blacked out all the windows with window tint. That's when she started hitting me, though. That's when the hitting started.”
