Estate agent Suzy Lamplugh went missing 40 years ago today, on July 28, 1986.

The 25-year-old was last seen leaving her workplace, Sturgis and Sons in Fulham, West London, at roughly 12.30pm.

Her white Ford Fiesta company car was later found abandoned nearby.

According to the Metropolitan Police, Lamplugh had a property viewing appointment booked in with ‘Mr Kipper’ on Shorrolds Road for the day she went missing.

John Cannan was the main suspect in her death, but he died in prison in 2024, without ever officially being charged with her suspected murder.

In the years since her disappearance, DNA testing and fingerprint analysis has been carried out, sadly to no avail.

Lamplugh's sister, Lizzie, and criminologist David Wilson appeared on This Morning to talk about the sad landmark date.

Lizzie was just 16-years-old when Suzy went missing, and talked about how her family still talk about her and remember her.

Wilson talked about how much has changed since, saying there was no DNA testing, photographs were grainy, CCTV was non-existent too.

Asked why it was such a high profile case, the criminologist responded: "This is about a young woman, who goes missing in broad daylight."

He made a harrowing point: "If Suzy could go missing in those circumstances, what was to say that other women couldn't go missing in those circumstances."

"It really caught the public's attention."

The main suspect, Cannan, had been serving three life sentences in prison for the murder of another woman, attempted kidnapping, and the rape of two more women.

Lamplugh's body was sadly never found.

Now, 40 years on from her disappearance police have issued a new appeal, before the case becomes 'inactive' next year.

Metropolitan Police's Detective Chief Inspector Teresa Foster said: "Please help us find Suzy's body."

Regarding Cannan, she added: "I think John Cannan is a very good suspect. I think he's a prime suspect. He has been a focus of the investigation, but he has not been the only focus. There have been other names put forward over the last few years, but again, each of them have been eliminated from the investigation."

"Up until [his death] there were efforts made to speak to him again. So with him dying, we would not be able to bring justice anymore. And it's going to have to be forensics really to point to if he did do it. He's a good suspect, but I'm keeping an open mind."
