Staff at a Mexican restaurant in the US were left horrified earlier this week when a customer wrote a racist remark upon their receipt.

According to local media, the diner finished their meal at Cazuelas Mexican Cantina in Columbus, Ohio, before being presented with a bill for a reasonable $87.84.

In a photo shared by the eatery which has since gone viral, however, the customer was seen to have allegedly penned, 'Zero. You suck', in the section of the receipt which asked if they'd like to leave their server a tip.

The unnamed customer had added another message in their abusive note, which had been directed at their waiter - known only as Ricardo.

"I hope Trump deports you!!!" they'd violently written in capital letters on the signature line of the bill.

This segment of the letter is thought to have been a nod to a promise Republican president Donald Trump previously made about planning the 'largest deportation operation in American history'.

Following his January inauguration, the controversial politician vowed that his administration would crackdown on immigration in the US, and have even bought to have birthright citizenship removed for the American-born children of non-declared immigrants.

The 78-year-old previously pledged that his right-wing team would deport 'maybe as many as 20 million' people in the coming four years.

"We will begin the process of returning millions and millions of criminal aliens back to the places from which they came," Trump said in his inauguration speech.

Of the vulgar incident that occurred in Ohio this week, the restaurant's head of marketing Fabio Oribo told NBC4 that the server that bore the front of the abuse only works on Sundays.

Oribo added both that Ricardo also holds down a second job away from the Cantina, and that he believes the offensive remarks came after a dispute regarding a coupon.

"It’s just not right, just not right," he old the news outlet. "He’s a really good person and like I said, we all here, like, come here every day to do our job, which is to serve people and have a good time."

The Central American restaurant previously released an online statement standing behind their staff.

The message shared on Monday (3 Mar) read: "At Cazuelas Mexican Cantina, we believe in the power of respect, tolerance and acceptance. Recently, one of our team members faced an unacceptable situation, and we stand firmly against any form of hate or discrimination.

"Together, we will continue to create a welcoming space for everyone. Thank you for your unwavering support!"

Real estate firm Century 21 have since confirmed that the abusive customer had been an employee, who has since been let go.

The property firm told NBC4: "After investigating the situation and connecting with the respective broker, as all companies affiliated with the CENTURY 21 brand are independently owned and operated, we can confirm that this agent is no longer affiliated with the brand."

A GoFundMe page has been set up by a fellow customer of Cazuelas Mexican Cantina, and has already raised a staggering $21,845 for Ricardo.

The organiser for the page wrote of the racist customer: "They enjoyed the food. They enjoyed the service. And then, instead of tipping, they decided to show their true colors in the most disgusting way possible."

According to The Independent, an event titled 'Celebrate Ricarco' has also been set up by the fundraiser, of which 30 individuals have promised on Facebook to attend.
