Lindsay Lohan has shared a touching tribute to the late Natasha Richardson, who played mum Elizabeth James in The Parent Trap.

It would have been Natasha's 58th birthday on 11th May, and Lindsay, 34, took to Instagram to post an emotional birthday message.

"Happy Birthday Angel  #natasharichardson," Lindsay wrote, alongside a photo of the pair from the 1998 movie. In the snap, Hallie (pretending to be Annie) and mum Elizabeth are in London, just before the bridal shop scene.

Natasha died suddenly when she was just 45 after suffering a head injury while skiing in in Mont Tremblant.

Speaking about her on screen mum in an interview last year, Lindsay said: "Natasha had such an elegance and grace, and she was so maternal to me."

Lindsay was just 11 when she took on the role of Hallie and Annie in the iconic film, meanwhile, Natasha was 35.

Natasha was married to actor Liam Neeson when she tragically passed away. The actor revealed in an interview recently that he "speaks to her every day".

"I speak to her every day at her grave which is about a mile and half down the road," he told the Inquirer.net. "I go down there quite often, so I do speak to her as if she's here. Not that she answers me."

Also speaking about Natasha's tragic death, her son Michéal - who was 13 at the time - told The Times that he's "grateful" he can still watch her films.

"It was so sudden," he said. "When it's unexpected and it's just a complete freak accident, it really sort of messes with your mind, whether you believe in fate or not. It can send you for a bit of a head spin, and so you just latch on to the tiny little memories, whether it's her laugh or her energy in the room or her cooking.

"I do have her films to go back and watch her in, which I'm incredibly grateful for."

He also previously told PEOPLE that his favourite movie of his mum's is The Parent Trap.

"I just see her so much as that person," he said.

"I'm so lucky too, because she's passed away, I can still watch her and see how she worked and also it's a great thing to have... And I do [watch her movies], but there's still a lot there I need to watch."
