Dani Dyer has announced to fans that she will be eating her baby's placenta.

The 24-year old former Love Island star took to Instagram to inform her 3.4 million followers she had made her placenta into a number of capsules and creams after sending it off to an Essex-based company.

She captioned her Insta story: "I always wanted my placenta made into capsules as I've heard amazing things but I didn't know if it was as common. But it is! So happy!"

The placenta had also been made into a variety of other products, including a mother and baby balm and placenta oil.

For those of you not in the know, the placenta is a flat, circular organ that is attached to the womb lining during pregnancy.

She also got face creams with her capsules (

Nutrients and oxygen are passed from the mum to her baby via blood sand into the placenta - which also produces hormones to help the baby develop, and protect the foetus from bacterial infections.

It is then passed out of the woman's body soon after labour.

It is common practise for new mums to eat the placenta, as some believe the organ is still packed with nutrients that it passed between mother and baby.

While some choose to eat it raw, others choose to get the placenta made into capsules.

It is thought eating the placenta could help the mum recover from giving birth and boost her strength while breastfeeding, while others believe placenta in capsule form can ward off post-natal depression encourage breast milk production, and provide new mums with an energy boost.

Dani has since revealed the adorable name for her little one (

The news comes as Dani revealed earlier today that she and partner Sammy Kimmence had named their baby boy Santiago.

Discussing on her podcast with dad Danny Dyer, the new mum said: "I know you're all probably wondering what we've called him. There's been a lot of assumptions going on, some are actually really funny to be fair, but his name is Santiago.

"I know a lot of you are probably thinking 'What?!' but that is his name but we are going to be calling him Santi.

"I think it sounds nice on the birth certificate."
