Carrie And Boris Johnson Reveal Newborn Daughter's Name

Carrie And Boris Johnson Reveal Newborn Daughter's Name

The name is a tribute to the PM's mother, who passed away earlier this year.

Carrie and Boris Johnson have revealed the name of their daughter, a week after her birth.

The PM and his wife said their choice of name was a tribute to Boris' late mother, Carrie's aunt, and the baby they lost following a miscarriage earlier this year.

The news was shared on Carrie's social media on Thursday, alongside a photograph of their new arrival and her big brother Wilfred.

The youngster's full name is Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson.

Carrie wrote: "Welcome to the world darling Romy. Born on December 9 at 9.02am.

"Romy Iris Charlotte Johnson. Romy after my aunt, Rosemary. Iris from the Greek, meaning rainbow. Charlotte after Boris' late mum who we miss so much.

"Wilf has been stroking Romy's hair, giving big kisses and playing with his matchbox cars right next to her crib, just in case she feels like joining too."

She added: "Thank you so much to the amazing maternity staff at UCLH for looking after us so well. We are so, so grateful."

The couple welcomed their first child together in April 2020.

Boris and Carrie announced they were expecting another child in July, revealing at the time that they had suffered a miscarriage before their 'rainbow baby' was conceived.

“At the beginning of the year, I had a miscarriage which left me heartbroken," Carrie said at the time.

“I feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant again but I’ve also felt like a bag of nerves.

"Fertility issues can be really hard for many people, particularly when on platforms like Instagram it can look like everything is only ever going well.

“I found it a real comfort to hear from people who had also experienced loss so I hope that in some very small way sharing this might help others too.”

Boris now has seven children who are public knowledge: Lara, Milo, Cassia and Theodore who he shares with ex-wife Marina Wheeler; Stephanie after an affair in 2009; and Wilfred and Romy with Carrie.

The 57-year-old PM has previously dodged questions about how many children he has fathered, with the subject becoming an area of interest about the Conservative Party Leader during the general election in 2019.
