This is amazing.

This is the amazing moment newborn twins were born still inside their amniotic sacs.

Mum Cristiane Mucci welcomed her newborn twins Maria Cecilia and Maria Alice at the Hospital de Nossa Senhora das Dores in Brazil.

But when the little ones were born, they were still inside their perfectly intact amniotic sacs in what is called a double en caul birth.

You can watch the incredible footage below:

The extremely rare birth happens in less than one in 80,000 births and are particularly rare because the amniotic sac usually ruptures when the mother's water breaks or when she is in labour.

In the footage, the twins can be seen encased in their sacs, meanwhile as the medical team gently pull them open, they begin to break free for themselves.

In a statement, the Hospital de Nossa Senhora das Dores said: "On 11th June, two twins came into the world in the maternity ward of the Hospital de Nossa Senhora das Dores.

"Cristiane Mucci gave birth to little ones Maria Cecilia and Maria Alice Mucci. However, this birth was different and special: the babies were born en caul, i.e. still inside the amniotic sac that protects the baby during pregnancy.

Incredibly, the twins were born in their amniotic sacs.

"The delivery was performed by gynaecologist and obstetrician Dr Emilio Garavini and the HNSD surgical team.

"On social media, the doctor reported that, at the time of the uterine opening, he realised that it would be possible to perform the delivery en caul.

"What he didn't imagine is that he would be able to pull out the two babies en caul and moreover at the same time. The children were born well and healthy.

"This type of delivery is very rare, happening only once in every 80,000 births. According to popular belief, babies who are born en caul will be very lucky during their lifetime. May it be so!"

It happens once in every 80,000 births.

In other parenting news, we told you how a mum who gave birth to a twin three times smaller than her little sister has called her little one a 'miracle'.

Audrieanna Lambert, 32, from Washington, gave birth to her twin daughters via IVF - Reagan and Mila - six months ago. The pair were born 11 weeks early, and while Mila weighed 2lb 13oz, Reagan was just a tiny 1lb.
