An ex-cruise ship worker has leaked a devastating secret about ‘ice cream parties’ and why they are thrown on board.

Dara Tucker, a TikTok creator who used to work as a singer on cruise ships, has revealed the dark meaning behind a concept that actually sounds lighthearted on the surface - what could possibly be morbid about an ice cream party?

They are, apparently, a common occurrence on cruise ships, and are free for all holidaymakers to come along to and get stuck in.

But next time you get offered free ice cream on a ship, we doubt you’ll be reaching for it.

In the video, which now has over 700k views, she said: “I don't know why when I talk about cruise ship stuff, stuff gets morbid so quickly.”

The clip was in response to a comment, which said: “I heard a hint that if the amount of ice cream suddenly goes up, it means they need more space in the freezer for a body.”

And while you might be thinking she was replying to totally debunk the crazy theory, that is where you would be wrong…

Dara continued: “OK, this is unfortunately often true.

“If the crew suddenly makes a bunch of ice cream available to the passengers 'free ice cream party!' it is often because more people have died on the ship than they have room for in the morgue.”

And before your mind starts running crazy, people are not being secretly murdered on cruise ships.

“Thankfully, we didn't have to deal with this kind of stuff.”

The demographic of these ships tends to generally be more elderly, and Dara estimated that about four to ten people would die every cruise trip.

Dara added: “The morgue, I believe held about seven people and if more than seven people died on that particular ship, they would have to start moving bodies to the freezer.

"Which meant they had to make room in the freezer, so they would have to take out a lot of the ice cream and other frozen goods in order to make room for the extra frozen bodies.

"So when that happened...ice cream party!"

We’re just as baffled as you are.

She also said: “Thankfully, we didn't have to deal with this kind of stuff.”

The average cruise capacity is about 3,000 people, so four to ten dying every trip doesn’t seem too far-fetched of a concept.

With people already wary of cruises, one commenter said: “I swear every cruise fact I learn makes me want to go on one less.”
