Woman sends friend £2 payment request for petrol after giving him a ride home

He was shocked to receive the message requesting the tiny amount

A man has shared the Venmo request he received for $2.47 (£2.01) after accepting a lift from a friend of a friend.

While most of us are feeling the pinch right now in one way or another, it’s unlikely many of us will go to the lengths this lady called Julia did. You can see her request, and how it went down, here:

Well, I guess times are hard, right?

TikTok user Peter - or @peterpribylpierdinock as he’s known on the app - shared the unusual exchange he was met with back in July after he and his roommate were given a lift by a ‘friend of a friend’ named Julia.

In the clip, captioned ‘Friends of friends getting way too bold’, a screenshot of the messages can be seen, which read: “Heyyyy it’s Julia.

“What’s ur venmo? I need to charge u like $2.47 for driving u home last night lmaooo [sic]”.

She followed up this message with: “also, what’s ur roommates venmo gas is so pricy hehe don’t blame me blame biden!!! [sic]”.

The man was surprised by the message.

Sharing screenshots of the messages, Peter joked: “I know it’s unlikely but I’m actively rooting for the Yellowstone supervolcano.”

The clip has since gone viral, racking up almost four million views and attracting plenty of comments from fellow TikTok users with many surprised that someone would go to the effort to ask for such a small amount back.

One wrote: “My life could rely on that $2.47 and I’d still be too embarrassed to really ask someone for that amount back..”

Another said: “I truly would rather have my checking account go into overdraft than ask someone for $2.47.”

Someone else commented: “Roommate?? So she’s charging both of you for going to the same place. How does that work??”

A fourth person suggested: “I would tell her I have no venmo and to come pick up the cash so she can waste more money driving to my house again.”

Not everyone had it in for Julie, though, another TikToker replied: “I don’t mind paying for gas because I know how expensive it is but always let me know BEFORE the ride.”

While someone else said: “Gas is expensive and we don’t know any context to what happened (distance etc.). She might have been living paycheck to paycheck.”

It’s unclear if Peter and his roommate paid up or if Julia is still after her cash.
