Teenage girl admits she started dating her biological dad after 12 years of estrangement

It's unconventional, to say the very least

A young woman has shared the shocking tale of how she started dating her biological father after being estranged from him for 12 years.

In the late 1980s, the founder of a support group for adopted children who'd recently reunited with their biological relatives coined the term 'Genetic Sexual Attraction' (GSA) to describe the intense romantic and sexual feelings that often occurred when they reconnected.

Such feelings are thought to occur in roughly 50 percent of case where estranged relatives are reunited as adults, according to an article published in The Guardian.

The founder herself had experienced attraction to her estranged son when the reunited 26 years later, although the feelings were not reciprocated.

Though research is scarce, possible explanations for GSA include a feeling of always having 'belonged' to the estranged relative, wanting to experience the bond missed out on during childhood or simply an overwhelming closeness based on similarities.

To this day, the least reported (and perhaps most taboo) type of consensual incest happens between fathers and daughters.

Well, one young woman from the US opened up to The Cut in 2015 about the taboo, sharing an insight into the consensual relationship she has with her father, who she was separated from for 12 years.

The then 18-year-old, who remained anonymous, hadn't seen her father since she was five-years-old when her parents separated and couldn't agree on visitation arrangements.

She reunited with her father when she was 17, after speaking with him online for a few days. The pair quickly realised that they had a lot in common and decided to spend the week together.

She admitted to feeling an instant attraction to her dad when they met after 12 years apart.

The young woman, who had a turbulent childhood with her mother who suffered with mental health issues, spoke about what it was like seeing her dad for the first time.

"It was so weird and confusing," she said. "I was seeing my dad for the first time in forever but it was also like, 'He’s so good-looking!'

"And then I was like, What the hell are you thinking? What is wrong with you? I saw him as my dad but then also part of me was like, I’m meeting this guy who I have been talking to over the internet and really connecting with and I find him attractive."

She soon found out the feeling was mutual after the pair began cuddling and playfighting.

"We stopped and said that we didn’t know what was going on but admitted that we had strong feelings for each other. We discussed whether it was wrong and then we kissed.

"And then we made out, and then we made love for the first time. That was when I lost my virginity."

The conversation then moved onto how her family views the relationship, with the pair hoping to tie the knot one day.

She admitted she was yet to tell her mother, but intended to do so when they moved to New Jersey where adult incest is legal.

"Everyone on my mom’s side of the family sees us as father and daughter," she said. "Those who know that he’s my dad and that we are engaged, include my father’s parents.

"They can see we are happy together and they can’t wait for us to have babies — they treat us just like any other couple."

She also revealed that the couple are planning on having children together, but will not tell them about the nature of their relationship to avoid trouble.

And as for what she calls her father/fiancé?

"When I need my dad I say, 'Hey, Dad, I need you'. And then he’s not going to be my fiancé or my boyfriend, but my father."
